First time run

Hi

Im 33 and I'm overweight. I used to run cross country but that was when I was in school. I do a lot of walking with my son, who is in a pram, but want to start running.

can anyone give me any tips? I want to do it to lose weight but also for my cardio which is rubbish.

I recommend buying this book on Amazon:

The Run-Walk-Run MethodJul 8, 2013

Jeff Galloway has spent about 50 years training runners. This method makes the most sense to me.

My tip is if anything starts to hurt even a little bit, take two or three days off. This way, you shouldn't develop any chronic problems.

watch some youtube videos on heal strike, or chi running. You may as well start running with a good technique before needing a week off to let your sore knees recover and blaming your shoes. Or maybe that was just me.

I'm also using an app called C25K (couch to 5K in 8 weeks) and seem to be progressing very well with that now.

I think you probably will have runner's memory once you start. if you do something for awhile and stop, it usually comes back. start with a slow mile and see how you feel. do it again and see if you feel better. than either increase distance or increase speed. Of course use resources from qualified sources, but you know yourself and you know how you feel. Get really good shoes, hydrate and go do it 🙂
