Fitbit Charge 2 & Boxing / Kickboxing

Hi fitbit community!

Just wanted to start this thread to share experiences of those using the Fitbit Charge 2 for boxing and/or kickboxing.

I have been using my Charge 2 for about a week, and been trying to get the most out of it during my boxing & kickboxing workouts.

I found that it was uncomfortable to wear the Charge 2 under my handwraps, so I put my handwraps on first, and then wear the Charge 2 wristband looser than normal, further away from my wrist (towards my forearm). Hopefully that doesn't effect the accuracy of the tracking.

I'm also trying to determine whether to let the Charge 2 automatically track the exercise, or if I should manually start & stop the logging of the workout.

Today, when I let it automatically track, the Charge 2 didn't start tracking until 20 minutes into the workout, (which was well after the warm up, during which I saw I hit 160+ bpm).

But when I manually start the workout, I don't know when to press "stop", as it still tracks my recovery period as "exercise" while I cool down after class is over.

I'd appreciate your feedback on your experiences!

Are you finding your 9!round heart rate monitor and your Fitbit are close in tracking calories burned?

No. My Fitbit short changes me on average 90 calories that my 9 Round heart monitor says I actually burned.

Hey! I came across your post from last year and was wondering... when you said that the Fitbit couldn’t withstand the high impact of punches, did you feel a weird shock on your arm coming from your Fitbit? I’m experiencing something like that with my Alta HR. At first I thought it was the band, but now I’m not so sure. It’s definitely a painful feeling that I’m getting from it, and only when punching the bag. It’s fine the rest of the time.

No, just punching in general. One person I know puts their band on their
ankle. Not sure if that's as accurate, but at least it is not in the way
the the boxing gloves.

It wasn't any type of electrical shock, but rather when holding pads/mitts,
the device dug into my skin when the puncher hit the side of the wrist. It
eventually stopped working.

I also workout at 9round. How doyou track your workout via fit bit?

I used to have two, 1st generation Charges and thay stopped working after a few weeks of kickboxing due to the bag training and hard hitting.

Now I have the Charge 3 and I take it off for training and just add the training afterwards with high intensity.

Like you guys, I would prefer to have it on to monitor my heart rate and the workout but it's just not worth replacing another Fitbit

I’ve had two break as well.  Fitbit replaces one(under warranty).  I spoke to customer service and they assured me it should work without any problems.  Unfortunately, my new replacement is already acting up after boxing.  I’m going to stop wearing it.  May get an apple wathc, since boxing is my main fitness, and apple watches seem to hold up better for this type of training.

Before returning it, I would look into the ankle straps sold online. Fitbit advises us that their watches are not designed to be worn on the ankle, and it may affect HR readings. But there are people in the community who've worn them that way, and some report the HR is fine for them. Not a good option for kickboxing, but it might be worth checking out for boxers.
