Fitbit device is tracking too many calories burned

Hello, I was wondering if my calorie tracker was working. Alright so hear me out, Today, ive been quite productive, very infact. I did 1 hour of cardio biking, then I went and did some moving for roughly 2 hours, then, at night, I decided to do a 2 hour long bike ride. So, when I checked my Fitbit, (charge 5) I found out that I burned over 8700 calories in a single day. Is that possible and accurate? Im 6,1 and weigh over 130 kg just for information.

Check your weight is entered correctly.

On the app it is exaclty my weight and I mean that I measured my weight a couple.minutes ago so weight isnt the problem.

No expert here, but it does seem to me like too many calories burned to be true.  Calorie burn is based on heart rate.  If you are used to tracking your heart rate at all, you could look at your heart rate graphs to see if they look reasonable.

The charts for my heart rate all checks out throughout the day. Add to this the regular calories I burn a day which it says about 3,000 ish being idle all day + on strava for the bike run I did for 2 hours, I burned for a total, apparently, of 1996 calories with an average bpm of 143. Maybe its just miss calculating or something

@Ptasium this is very inflated figure for energy expenditure. I can't tell why is that. You may try to enter your details into TDEE Calculator so that should give you more probable figure (not 100% accurate but good approximation).

Something tells me there's something wrong with the calorie count. If you run for 2.5 hours at an average pace, you can only burn 1000 calories.

I have a Fitbit One and my calories just changed about a week ago suddenly it says I'm burning more than 12,000 calories/day. I dropped it a few days before it changed and I'm attributing the change to whatever happened when I dropped it. But on line, the change was made all the way back through at least the past month. But maybe I'm worng about dropping it caused the change. It's a Fitbit One, old and I probably need a new one.

Fitbit adds additional fake calories to the total for each day. It can be more than 300 or even 500 calories a day to what is actually there. Be careful who uses weight loss protocols and counts calories from food.

Hello,

I have the same feeling of @SunsetRunner as I wrote in this post

Yeah, saw it. Fitbit using algoritms that created 5 years ago and looks like does not see the point of updating them.

I agree that the count sounds inflated. Personally for me compared to another device, my Sense 2 ends most days with hundreds of more calories than the other device.

If you've got the time or desire to do so. It is possible to track you calories in and calories out (recorded by the Fitbit) over time and compare your weight loss/gain/maintenance to the expected rate. It's then possible to determine if the Fitbit is over counting and by how much.
