Forward February 2023 — Step Challenge and Picture Scavenger Hunt

So how did January go?  Are you still holding strong on those New Year’s resolutions?  Or have you completely forgotten about that?  🙂

I slipped a bit. Got sick and had to reset some of my daily goals. And my 20+ mile unicycle ride has yet to happen. But I’m feeling better and I’m looking forward in February — Forward February!

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

Picture Scavenger Hunt — 3 pictures

The theme of the photo scavenger hunt for Forward February is water — frozen, running, still, under bridges, on trees ….

Posting

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

Now that I've had a flavor of the new job and the pace, I'm going to have to adjust my routines and more consciously get up throughout the day and move around.  I have a very unrealistic daily goal for my weekdays, but maybe it'll push me a bit more to take those few extra steps.

My goals are the same as lost month, maybe this month I will get a bit closer!

10,00 steps every two days                                                                                                                                7/12

strength exercises 3 times per week                                                                                                                  2/12

eat between 1,400 and about 1,500 calories per day                                                                                      7/28

3 photos per month                                                                                                                                               2/3

lose at least 0.2 lbs per day                                                                                                                                 14/28

be down by 2.2 lbs from start of month                                                                                                                0/1

2/23/23.  With Lent upon us, (and since I am relatively new to Catholicism) I have decided it is time to get serious.  So - I will not eat sweets (my biggest hurdle), I will lose weight and I will start exercising, no matter how much I hate it.  Let's hope this helps.

2/19/23.    Things seem to be looking up for me this month.  Still not up to where I want to be, but getting there.  My weight loss seems to be improving as well, but still a long way to go.

This photo is of my backyard, taken from the upstairs porch in about -8F (about -24C).  We are supposed to go down to -28F (about-32C).  I LOVE cold weather, so bring it on!!  However, I have no plans for going out today - maybe tomorrow evening for Church.  I may love cold weather, but I know how dangerous it can be.

This next photo is of the Connecticut River, at this point running only because the dam is moving water into it.  Further south it is frozen.

Thanks @Vidd. It’s difficult sometimes to get a good shot of the ice, and not have your own shadow interfere. I was surprised to find a little iceberg floating in our rain barrel yesterday. I lifted it out and after it didn’t completely melt, though it was in the sun all day!
