Friends needed Restarting and need motivation

I am restarting on fitbit and finding I'm sedentary to much. My goal is starting at 5000 steps a day. Hoping this isn't to low to start. I'm 48 female looking to loose some more weight. 😁

Hello and Good Evening from Indiana. I am also restarting Fitbit today.  In the past I would set goals on calories, steps, food tracking, water tracking, and of course weight.  I live a sedimentary lifestyle with computer work so it's hard to get my daily steps. I can come close but I have to push myself to walk more to make it most days.

Starting today I have two goals.  10,000 Steps and give up Soda. (I call it Pop) So I wrote a post it note on my bathroom mirror. 10K No Pop  I'm not going to worry about tracking anything or what kinds of foods are better than others or even my weight. Just everyday, don't drink Pop and get my 10,000 steps.

I could use some support with this and I will be there to help you all as well. Let's start small and finish strong!

A personal goal needs only judged by the one who makes it.  I think 5,000 is a perfectly good place to start.  Good Luck! give us a post tomorrow and share your first day.

Thank You! I made my goal!!!! walked the dog, went to gym, walked at store, walked 15 min on treadmill. I looked at my progress over the year and was disappointed I had only lost 30 #s. I really wasn't putting enough effort. I want to make it up to 10,000 steps but don't want to burn myself out the first week. So goal right now is 5000 steps a week.  then add 1000 steps each week. I'm new to the community and realize that you can have friends to motivate and encourage you. Just now learning about it. Never tried it and thought it would help me.  I see someone else asked about it. I never done this friends stuff and would like to start and learn how. Thank you.

Fitmewell, You'e staring right.  In 2002 I had a weight problem and set a goal to lose 35 pounds by 2012. I had tried before but always gave up or gained weight back. My fist year I gave up donuts. Giving up only one thing wasn't that hard. My second year was soda and that was also easy. I went on year by year giving up McDonald's, then all fast food - except Subway - then chain restaurants, potato chips, until ten years later I had hit my goal and didn't miss the things I gave up. I also ramped up my exercise just as slowly.

Now, 7 years after I hit my weight goal I'm a few pounds below it. My blood pressure and cholesterol are down and I feel much better than I did when I started 18 years ago.

Sometimes you'll feel that you're not making progress but stay at it and if your weight goes up a bit just exercise a bit more and make sure you don't start eating things that you've given up.

@stormy2nyt

I also restarted on 10/1 and set a goal of 5k steps. I think its a good place to start. My goal is to increase my steps by 1k every month, until I can comfortably hit the 10k goal. good luck!

I've been walking with a FitBit One since 2016 and have experienced the following. First, the most important point.....accept the fact that dedicated walking, in one's mind, needs to become a "routine" part of his or her daily/weekly regimen. Doing something only when you feel like it or have time isn't going to cut it over the long haul. Since 2016 I have altered my regimen a few times. When I first started, weight loss was my primary motivator. I lost forty-one pounds in less than nine months. I would average about 425K per month (around 14,000 steps per day). Once I got the weight down, I backed down to around ten thousand steps per day. I closely, to this day, monitor my caloric intake, type of foods consumed and volume of water I drink. I had increased my daily steps goal to twenty thousand per day but began to suffer foot fungus issues when the warm weather arrived. I now strive to achieve twelve thousand steps per day but on some day's, an unplanned interruption may alter my step count. I walk most days 2.5 miles before breakfast. This activity provides me with around 5,500 steps to begin the day. Other movements (grocery shopping, tending to the farm animals, yard work, etc.) round out the balance of my step count for the day. Presently, I have done pretty well on the weight maintenance with only a ten pound increase in weight since I lost the forty-one pounds in 2016. I feel a bit stronger at 216 than at 206.

Hope my story will provide you with information which might be helpful as you embark on your efforts to include walking as part of your daily regimen. Here's to your success!!!
