Great Day hiking

Had a great day hiking in Frontenac Park today off trail through fairly rugged terrain. Steps were 7,999, distance was 2.44 mi and stairs was 49.

I would like to know how the FitBit is calculating distance travelled and stairs climbed. Additionally, I was on my eliptical yesterday and the FitBit did not make any chnages to the number of steps so I'm wondering how it takes into consideration leg movement such as riding a bike or using an eliptical.  Also I temporary lost my FitBit. I had been digging around in my napsack and it had come off. When I realized I did not have my FitBit on it really affected me. I can see how it can become somewhat addictive. Oh and on the wristband coming undone ...  use a couple of elastics, they work fine.

Cheers

When I bike or use the eliptical I attach my band to my shoe.  On the elliptical, I don't alway use the arm extensions and instead grab on to the hand grips, having no movements.  Elastic's or small rubber rings work well on securing your band.
