I am new to fitbit and starting exercise from the beginning. I bought a fitbit for the sole purpose of walking. Any ideas how far or how many steps a new user be completing a day? Just an overview of me I currently am changing my diet as in the overweight category and do no exercise at all. Thank you for the help and support.

You do what you can. Start out slow and build up when you can.
10, 000 Is the recommended but some people cant do that. So that's why I say do what ever you can

@loueezm hi !!! 4000 steps is a good start ... just remember this takes time and patience but you'll get to the 10000 step thing if you keep at it .
Just remember fit bit has to be fun (I think that is a rule lol)

I started with a 4,000 goal in September last year. I worked on just meeting (or exceeding) that goal every day until I hit it for five to seven days straight (I have been known to have a 3-day activity kick a few times and then go back to before, so you may want a different number)
I know some people recommend trying to increase by 1,000 every week, but when I started, that would've been impossible. Increase slowly, when you think you can - you want it to be slightly challenging, but not so challenging that you can't do it at all or just stop trying.
Now, my goal is 8k but last week I got a day with 22,000 steps!
I have a DeskCycle (that may not be as good as actually walking, but it keeps me at least somewhat active the ENTIRE day when I'm at my desk!)

You want to slowly increase to the highest number that's SUSTAINABLE
You don't want a goal of 15,000 if you can only be able to meet that once or twice a week.
If you can eventually reach 10,000 a day or almost every day, that's a great goal to have!
Also, keep moving even after you reach your goal, if you can! I got past 11k today and like I said, my goal is 8k... but it's only 4pm!
The thing that matters here is that you get moving
Step count doesn't really matter all THAT much, what matters more is that you tried and you got your heart rate up and kept moving
You want this to be an active lifestyle, so make it something you can do every day and not get burned out.
