Has anyone upgraded from the Fitbit One to the Force?

ANSWERED

I have had my One for about a year now. I like the idea of the wearable Force. Has anyone changed from the One to the Force and if so what is your opinion, worth it or wait until the next model?

If it helps you I did debated this from my perspective.

one - wear anywhere, used on ankle for cycling, easily hidden, (no explaining what and why and how i'm doing this) Screen is nice.

con's  have to have sleep band to use sleep tracker (it can get stinky) i fear of radiation/cancer from keeping it closer to my body's organs when wearing in bra for example.

Force- wear on wrist could rig up anywhere else on body, never forgetting to wear it to bed or leaving it in the robe. smaller screen has some perks but this is both a con and pos..

con's - sort of showing it off, the screen, i hear clasp issues are common, not hidden easily/don't match outfits,

My choice is the Fit Bit One the flexibility with placement to me is just awesome.

I upgraded to the Force from the One. Basically I am happy with Force except clasp issue. I like wearing the gadget and having instant access to my daily stats and prefer wearing it on my wrist. I have used O rings to get around closure issue but it is a problem.

Yes, I have heard about the clasp issue, that is one concern.

I was tempted to do that but after handling my friend's Force, I am sticking with my One. They are exactly the same in terms of tracking. I like the bigger screen of the One. Save your money.

I had a Flex for a day but prefer the One.  The Flex was big and ugly, to me.  I'm not a plastic jewelry type, or a 'sports gadget with profl attire' type.

I have been debating as to getting the Force or the Flex. However, I have the One and love it. My nighttime band wore out and I cut the top band of a sock made a slit in the back and that is how I wear it to bed. Still debating, but don't want to get it till I know the clasp is fixed.

I also got the brilliant idea of placing the band around the ankle and when I walk it keeps track of my steps better than in my pocket. Saying all that just to say, I will hold on to my Fitbit One a little while.

Happy Stepping and Happy Valentine's Day to all Fitbit users!

Wearing a One on your ankle might give you a steps count you prefer but I wouldn't use the calorie estimate it produces, without sanity checking it first.  It assigns calories based on the movement it detects on a torso.  Your ankle moves a lot more than your torso.  It doesn't know it's on your ankle or make adjustments for being on your ankle.

Calorie count is no issue with me since they always are high no matter where I put the One. My thing was the idea I needed to get all of my steps counted. I have tested it while walking and it has a more accurate count now. My husband and sister-in-law helped me. The One does not count every movement of my ankle. I have thought of that. I think each seems to work differently.

It's odd your calorie count is high with it on your torso yet it misses steps.  Though if your calorie count is too high when you wear it on your ankle, that's to be expected.  You might want to do a quick 100-step test with it on your torso and if it doesn't count at least 95 of them, return it for a new one.  You shouldn't have to wear a One on your ankle to catch steps.  It sounds like you're happy with it, which is good, but for the money you spent you deserve to have useful data and one that works correctly.  Smiley Happy

Mary, I purchased it when they first came out. I have had it too long to get it replaced. The calories are high because of the exercise and the low calorie program I am on. The one I have is fine. You are right it works for me. My goal was to keep moving more this year. Thanks for your input. Main reason I wrote this was out of curiosity of the "NEW" Force. Thanks again.

It looks like the Force has just been recalled because it was giving people rashes and blisters. In general, people seem to have problems with it that you didn't see with the Fitbit One.

I'd stick to what works for now.

Here's a link to the New York Times articles about the voluntary recall:

I read 1.7% of wearers had issues with the Force, so it's fairly rare.

I do believe you're right that it's fairly rare, and it's a voluntary recall so folks can decide whether or not to send the item back based on personal experience. However, the rash and blistering problem isn't the Force's only issue. People like the Force but there seem to be lots of glitches with it that you don't hear about, in the forums, with the Fitbit One.

If you're buying a Fitbit product for the first time, the Force may be worthwhile. However, I'm not considering upgrading from the Fitbit One to the Force until they work the bugs out.

I feel the same way about iPads and iPhones. I'm not one of the folks waiting in line for 6 hours to get the newest thing and essentially do free beta testing for a company.

But that's just me. Certainly the Force has cool features that the Fitbit doesn't have.

I upgraded to the Force from the One.  Lost my first One, and am afraid I'll lose or wash the second One. I like that the Force is easily viewable with stats and so easy the set up for sleep.  The clasp IS an issue and I devised a loop so it would not fall off unexpectedly.  The clasp is getting better the longer I wear it.  I'm KEEPING the Force and NOT sending it back for the recall.  I have purchased 3 other Force as gifts.  2 are returning for recall.  Still struggling with sleep accuracy, but will work that out.  Waiting for the firmware upgrade.

I have had the Zip, the One and as soon as the Force came out, I bought it. I really had a time getting used to the clasp, but after a few times of warming the clasp sockets in warm water, I finally got the clasp buttons to "click". BUT, it still comes off pretty easy if I do something to bump it. I saw the recall, but since I had the Force for a few months with no skin issues, I didn't send it back in. My only concern is that the Force really needs to have the arms swinging in some fashion and I work in a hospital pushing a phlebotomy cart around. It took 2-3 months of wearing it but now it seems to "know" me now. I have worn the One on my pants belt and the Force on my left wrist and now the steps are matching. For a while they were about 3000 steps apart. But now the Force pretty well matches the One. I complained to the company about the clasp and I am hoping that when they finally figure out what's going on and the Force is again on the market, I will have the opportunity to buy. I am, however, curious about what Apple does with it's HealthKit when iOS 8 comes out and maybe if they ever offer an iWatch. Lots of room to develop.
