I'm a teacher, so when I work, I walk around a lot. Now that it's summer, I'm spending a couple of weeks doing a desk job. Boy, is it hard to get my 250 steps an hour! I have to really be conscious of it. I admire people who do this kind of work all the time. I can't wait to get back to my classroom. 🙂

As an office worker, I always highly advised people to take a few steps every hour if possible. I need to get my legs moving every hour to help keep me focussed. Speaking of focus, my eyes start to get tired of staring at a computer screen. Taking a couple minutes to walk around a little bit every hour is healthy for the body and mind. I go to the restroom, breakroom etc. I try to drink at least a glass or 2 of water every hour and I take 200 steps round trip to the breakroom for a refill.
I walk on both my 15 min breaks. I snack throughout the day so I don't usually eat a lunch, so I walk on my 30 min lunch as well. With my brisk walk to wake me up each morning, I usually get about 11k steps by end of day at 2:30. Then off to pick up the kids from school and I get there 30 mins before they get out. So a nice walk around their campus nets about 3k more steps. I call it a good day if I can make it home by 4pm with 15k steps.

Im an Office worker. At first it was hard to get the 250 every hour. But now I have made it a habit so I jump up and get it in.

Thanks everyone for some great suggestions. I'm an office worker as well and fairly new bitbit user. I try to run 4 days each week and it's easy for me to get to 10,000 steps on the days I run. the other days I have to make a consious effort or I fall short. To help I walk to the caf to refill my water bottle, then walk to the bathroom furthest away which is stand alone and I jog for a minute or 2 before going back to my desk. Our office also encourages us to get up and get moving, so even if it walking to the mailroom knowing you have no mail.... or going outside to the car for no particular reason. After doing this if I'm still a bit short a walk in the evening or jogging in place while watching a tv show usually puts me well over the top. My goal for next month is to get 10,000 steps each week for the full month.

I'm also an office worker so I understand what you mean but I've found that it's just a matter of getting the habit of walking around. Anything that can be done off the desk, it's better to get up and walk around like making phone calls or just go for a little walk to clear up my mind.

I find its the hardest between 10 and 4 to get steps in because thats usually when the never ending conference calls and busy work happens. I have alarms set on my fitbit to go off every hour starting at 1030. Unless I am doing the talking, I get up and pace around for 250 steps. Of course some days its near impossible and I try to make it up else where, but on the days it works- I am a happy camper.

I drink a lot of water throughout the day (average around 150 oz). This makes me have to go pee every hour or so. I go to the farthest restroom away from my desk, and normally one of the ones upstairs. Gets me over 250 steps, and a flight of stairs for every bathroom break.
