I am 71 years old, and waiting for my second knee replacement. My first one was about 10 years ago. I used to do fairly well on my treadmill, but am in great pain now, and use a cane for walking. I have an appointment in April to determine who my doctor will be, and find out how much longer I will need to wait for surgery. In the meantime, what exercises can I do to prepare for the surgery, given that even getting up and down, as well as walking causes great pain.

I suggest you see a physiotherapist for advice on this.
Good luck and hope your surgery is sooner rather than later.

MapleLeafLady: As A retired Physical Therapist with 38 years experience I can only offer this advice: If you have access to a pool, walking in water takes weight off the painful knee, will build up your cardio-vascular health and just kicking in water will help or improve the range of motion in your arthritic knee. Good luck to you.

Thanks Corney. This too sounds like a good idea.
