How do I add strangers as fitbit friends through the app?

Some years ago when I had a firbit device i remember that I could add and comment through the app with total strangers.  

Now it seems is not possible

 

I cant join or search for groups to join in the app. What am I doing wrong?

Open groups are gone. To join closed groups somebody needs to invite you to one. There isn't way to search and join on your own.
