I live about four miles from my workplace and although I haven't yet walked all four miles to or from work, there are a few games I play during the week to increase my stepcount.
Some days I'll take the hillier, windier, unnecessarily long route to BART (San Francisco's heavy-rail rapid transit system). Almost always, I forgo the escalator for the stairs. Today, that act alone added 5 flights of stairs and over 250 steps to my morning journey.
My other favorite "cheat" is high stepping in place. Sure, I may look a little odd bouncing up and down while typing at my makeshift standing desk, but it feels good to keep the blood flowing and the legs moving!
What do you do to get your extra steps in?
Hi Zee, yeah I'm good. I was very pleased as a couple of days ago I managed to do just over 20k steps! Since then I've done a couple of days at 17k and 16k. I'm amazed! I've been walking with the children along the seafront as it's been so nice. It's definitely helped me reach that goal and now I want to do that every day ![]()
Just earned my 3000 miles badge!! I have been a Fitbitter since 24 Jan 2014! Woohoo!! Walking much better now, still feeling rough and have bad days like yesterday (but I got just over 10K steps anyway!) but loads more good days than bad! So proud of myself right now 🙂
My treadmill and elliptical are positioned so that I can exercise while I watch television. It can be difficult to hear the television over the noise from the treadmill so I keep a pair of wireless headphones handy so I don't have to crank up the television volume.

Best AnswerYes awesome suggestion, my static bike is in the sitting room too, often used by myself and Owen in the evenings! I agree though, we do have to turn the TV up loads! Happily we bought a detached house together so I don't have to worry about that as much as I did when I lived in a terrace! Keep stepping and ellipiticalling (?!) !!!
