Interesting article from the New York Times explaining how/why devices like fitbit respond to different types of activity. Contains some nice animations of the accelerometer outputs during cycling, weight lifting, etc. Worth a look if you want to see your favorite device in action.

I saw this, too, and found it fascinating. Every person who has wondered how he or she got mystery steps needs to see this. Everyone who has questioned the accuracy of this technology needs to see this.

That is a great little tutorial. I kind of wish there was an addendum about how a torso-clip tracker doesn't suffer a lot of the same noise issues. But that will help a lot of new Fitbitters better understand, if shown it.
