I range from about 10K to 15K with some days hitting 20-25K. The high days tend to be days when I am on vacation, walking around a city, or doing things across the day. A good number to recah for is 10,000. And it is good to try and have as much of that as possible be brisk walking.

Hi Michelle! Welcome to Fitbit! I do anywhere from 12 - 20k steps per day--about 5 to 10 miles. That includes walking the dogs twice a day, general moving around during my day, and a 4 or 5 mile exercise walk. Just don't overdo it at first. Better to build up and not end up sore and discouraged. You can set you goals on the dashboard and increase them as you gain fitness. Keep stepping!

I am new toFitbit. I just got mine couple days ago. I was wondering how many miles/steps do you do in a day? I'm trying to lose about 50 pounds. Thank for any help.
Welcome to the forums!
I would start off with the the default goals and adjust. Everyone is different. I have a low metabolism due to genetics so I walk over 20,000 per day with at least 120 active minutes...But it took me six months to work up to this. Just do not give up and keep on stepping!

You will see a huge variation between people, because (as @Algenon noted) everyone is different: age, fitness level, time available etc.
If you subscribe to the Premium plan (I believe you can try it for free for one week), you can benchmark yourself against same-sex, same corpulence people in your age bracket. For instance, this is where I stand against normal weight 45-54-year-old men:
The benchmark data is compiled from hundreds of thousands of users and will give you a much more accurate picture of what other people are doing than the anecdotal evidence of people answering your question on this forum.
