Hi all,
I have a question for you:
How many steps can you do, walking and running, in 15 minutes?
I ask this because I developed a little versa app that lets me "battle" pokemon trainers by trying to get more steps than them within 15 minutes.
I programmed it to go use steps defined this site by verywellfit that shows averages of steps per activity.
Well, it was supposed to be an easy win, but I was beaten by over 1000 steps! I checked the data again from the site and realized it has to be way off - 6000 steps in 15 minutes, that's over 6 steps per second!
During my class at the gym I was running at ~16km/h for about 7 minutes, followed by bodyweight exercises that would had a lot of arm movement (jump squats, star jumps, etc) for the rest of the 15 minutes, and only managed to get 1570 steps.
So yeah, that's about it - how many steps can you do, walking and running, in 15 minutes?

The chart at veryfit is way off for faster speeds. Elite runners average from 180 to 200 steps per minute. I don't know about sprinters. Elite racewalkers can average about 220 steps per minute. It appears the charts forget about the airborne component of running steps.
By regulation, the military marches at 120 steps per minute at 3.5 mph.
In my opinion, trying to find equivalents is an inefficient activity. Just use the calories from your Fitbit if you have a heart rate monitor.
Actually, I've gotten to the point where I consider formal exercise to be an inefficient use of my time. I allocate most of my activity calories to productive work. I do lift weights in the morning, but that burns few calories per minute. It's a good warmup for the day. I also jog for 20 minutes early in the morning.

I could probably manage around 100 steps but that would be pushing it

@impo just quickly counting my last 60min walk ( moderate speed, relaxing lunchtime walk along the river bank ) according to Fitbit it resulted with 6664 steps. So it is 111 steps per minute and 1666 steps per 15 mins. My last treadmill run says that 25min resulted with 4039 steps which is 161 steps/min and 2415 per 15min. I don't consider these numbers to be super accurate. Steps next to floors are least important for me as it is too easy to unwillingly fake them.
