Hi. I was wondering how many steps I would get if I shop at a mall for about 2 hours. I will be shopping and walking around the mall. I just need to know so I can play my workout for later.
Thanks, Chris.

This is really too hard to answer... there are a LOT of factors... best way I can say is to wear the FitBit or other pedometer and see what it says.

There is no way to predict this. It would depend on how fast you walk, how many times you stop, how far away from the mall you parked, etc. Try it and see. Do it several times and see if you can figure out an average for you. Then you can use that number as an estimate for the next time.

Probably not as many steps as you would think. I'd estimate 2,500 - 4,000.

Why would it make a difference in your workout later?
Walking in a mall isnt a workout.

I can see if your workout's aim is to hit X steps, your mall time would be pertinent.
Chris- Walk for one minute as if you're in a mall. How many steps was it, around 50? 70? Multiply that by 120 and that's your estimate. If I were to just walk at normal pace for 120 minutes that'd be maybe 12000 steps. In a mall, I'm guessing less than that, due to all the stopping and slow pace.

I have two malls that I have walked this last winter while the weather was too cold, wet or just miserable to walk outside. A full circuit walking in front of the stores (not entering any) upstairs and down is about 2400 to 2500 steps at one and 2800 to 3000 at the other - I could do 3 to 4 circuits for 3 to 4 miles in around an hour or so if the crowd wasn't too bad - weekends were much slower going due to the increased crowd on those days.
Of course if you are shopping you will be going much slower - Hope this is helpful
