I was wandering how much water people drink each day.
I drink 5-6 litres everyday and I wanted to compare to see how much other fitbitters consume.
A great book to read about water is titled The Water Prescription by Christopher Vasey, N.D. It is easy reading but very useful information. I have it on my Kindle.
Someone in the fitbit community replied what we eat is a source of water also; that is sooooo true. Chapter 2 of this book shares some very good information on water intake through fruits and vegetages. For example did you know a cucumber has a water content of 95.6 percent.
Check it out and let us know what you think.

This is an interesting thread. This WebMD article http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/features/wonders-of-water caught my attention. In dosing water, people often forget that hydration does not only come from purposeful water intake but from other food and beverages we consume daily. I diet rich in fruit and vegetables should account for a fair amount of our daily needs.

Best AnswerI drink between 60-90 ounces of water a day. I always try to drink at least 64 oz per day, but I don't think I'd try to drink much more than a gallon a day. 128 oz a day seems like a lot already, I couldn't imagine drinking more than that. I don't eat a lot of salty food and don't generally put salt on foods that I'm cooking for myself and I love fruit so I know I'm getting water from that as well, which is why I don't intend on ever trying to drink much more water per day than I'm drinking now.

My hot yoga teachers swear by taking your weight, and trying to drink half that in ounces.
I tend to go by the guideline that your yoga instructor suggests rather than the generic "8x8" rule that seems to be considered the basic guideline because it's easy to remember and seems to be a safely generic number for an average adult (8x8 oz, 64 oz water).
I just don't buy into the idea that (for instance) going by the 8x8 rule a 90 lb person would need to drink the exact amount of water that a 270 lb person (as in the everyone drink 64 oz water daily).
It seems to make a lot more sense that you would go by body weight and (of course) activity level.
I personally use the guideline of taking the number represented by half my weight (I weigh 160 lbs so I use 80 as my number) and drink roughly that number of ounces of water per day (for me, 80 oz water). I have days when I drink slightly less water, but not by much. I also have days when I drink more, as when heavy exercise plays a role or I'm out in the heat for long periods where my body is often telling me to drink more water.
My average water intake tends to be somewhere between 80 and 90 ounces per day.
