I did it!!!

I go for "marathon Monday" strolls with our dog every Monday where I double the distance we walk the rest of the week and regularly hit 5,000 steps on a Monday which I know doesn't sound like anything to be proud of, but walking at all is a real challenge for me.  I was hoping to get to 6,000 steps so have been really pushing myself for the last couple of weeks but my most up until yesterday was 5,600-ish.

Not yesterday though!

By the time I got into bed, I'd managed to achieve my goal!

A huuuuge (for me) 6,018 steps!!  😂

Next target is to regularly do 6,000 steps on a Monday!  When I first got my Fitbit at the very end of September 2019, even 2,500 steps was a challenge so to more than double it yesterday is incredible!

Feeling soo motivated right now!

totally understand that 6k steps can be a real challenge ... when my wife got me one several years ago I was thinking 10k steps, i do easily that much ... well,1st day was around 2k so i figured the fitbit had to be wrong ... best for the week was about 3k and i actually counted steps and compared to the fitbit and sadly the fitbit was accurate (ok, like a lot of guys I'm delusional) ... first few weeks were a real shock, half mile and i was winded, leg muscles sore ... remembered from cardio rehab all about stretching so made that part of it all ... by the end of the summer I was doing a mile and had increased by speed a little .... been at it for a few years now but yeah 6000 really was a real challenge for me for quite awhile, then 8k was the goal, then the magic 10k (by that point OCD was taking hold and it was 12k, 14, 16 and finally 20k although a lot of days are between 6k and 10k ... except for those weekend warrior challenges lol)

You are soo right, @russsss!  I recently (as in the weekend just gone) invested in a Charge 3 that I'm gonna wear on my wrist and compare the steps on that with my current Inspire that is 'round my ankle so that I can get accurate steps readings on it... I'm gonna ignore the steps on the Charge 3 'cos that's arm movements instead of genuine steps, but the floors and HR will be interesting to see what happens and the reason I invested in a second one.

Now that I know it really is possible for me to do 6k steps a day, my next challenge will be doing it every Monday and hitting the 2500 steps the rest of the week, which is pretty easy to do when the puppy is home, but still don't manage it when she's getting her medicated baths.  She's home all week this week, so I'll be walking her every day, so in theory I should have another 7 green stars in the app... keep your fingers crossed for me!

I'm hoping that yesterday wasn't just a fluke, but I'm aiming for 6k every Monday now that I've done it once.  When I'm getting 7 green stars every week (even on days when the puppy is getting bathed), I'm gonna up the target steps to 3k a day too... I never thought I'd be able to do that back in October 'cos this time last year I was celebrating getting to 1,600 steps a day lol.  It's taken me 17 years since coming out of hospital, totally unable to walk even to the end of our short road (about 15 metres) to doing 2 miles on a Monday, every Monday, is beyond my wildest dreams!

No doubt you will meet your goals ... about the 6k being a one off, so what if it is ??? It will happen, it will get easier and there will be new goals . The other 6 days may have ups and downs due to any number of things but progress is just as much about that "one step back and two steps forward " .  If there was a fitbit betting site (not really a gambler here, I'm the one that goes to a casino with 20 bucks and if I get ahead by 10 I leave).

hmmmmm accidentally posted that before it was done lol ... the point is I'd take an even money bet for you hitting your goals on a monthly basis and consider it an income stream .  For me, with almost 5years here the people that get me out on a cold damp day aren't the ones with a bazillion steps a day it's the people that fight for it, don't win in challenges but keep at it anyway ...

Thank you @WendyB!

You are sooo right, @russsss!  I know it's not a lot to reach 6k and I very much doubt I will ever reach 10k (but I said that about reaching 5k back in September and now I'm doing it every Monday lol) but I know it's possible now.  I couldn't have done it without the support and encouragement of everyone here on the forum!

Thank you, @JuanJoFitbit but I'm back to struggling to hit 2,500 steps a day again 'cos our senior puppy passed away on 5th November 2020 and I'm struggling to motivate myself to move again now  😟

@AmandaGeorge I'm so sorry about your buddy 😞 I can't imagine how hard this loss was for you. Puppy's become part of our lives and it's hard to keep going without them.

I really hope you find the motivation you need and I encourage you to find it knowing that your puppy is in a better place now and you can.

Thank you so much, @JuanJoFitbit - pretty much the only days I get more than 2,500 steps now are Sunday's and Monday's 'cos that's when we put our rubbish and recycling out (Sunday) and bring it back in again (Monday) but the rest of the week I'm lucky to reach 2,000 steps  😞

I know how hard it is to lose a pet. My beloved kitty, Harley, passed away on Tuesday. I just feel lost without her and it seems that most people don't understand how this feels. 💔

I try to remind myself that she would not want me to be sad and depressed. She would want me to eat healthy food and to get enough exercise and to remember the good times, not just the end. She might even want me to open my heart to another pet someday, when the time is right.

@AmandaGeorge That's awesome. It seems that you have your schedule organized and have enough time to reach that amount of steps on certain days.

@alexthecat I'm so sorry for your loss too. That's a nice way of thinking. Be sure that your kitty wouldn't want to see you sad. Remember the best moments you had with your kitty and you'll feel better. I definitely understand how you feel since it's hard to get another pet when you still love your kitty.

@JuanJoFitbit - It's only going back and forth between the kitchen and just outside our house four times a week that lets me do it lol

@AmandaGeorge That's excellent, though! due to Covid, I also walk around the house when I want to reach my daily goal since there are no parks near my house. So I prefer to walk around the house in order to avoid the virus ha ha ha.

I haven't been able to leave the house alone (other than in my wheelchair) since 1999 and only managed to walk our dog between our two neighbours a couple of times a day so that I could cling on to my quad cane and the house walls (we're a terraced street) for safety, which is how I got my steps in until the start of November and haven't been able to manage it since!  😞
