I am sure there are loads of websites and apps you can download to help you with your run. I have heard that couch to 5K is a good place to start. You want to make sure you have really good running shoes too. Good luck in your endeavor.

Depends on your current running capability you may start with 5k but there is a massive difference between short and long distance run. Work on your cadence and strength to minimize risk of injury which is more likely to happen during long run. Progress gradually and don't focus much on your speed/pace. If it is your first half (but will be using just marathon) marathon you want to complete it 🙂 Good time is nice but completion is an achievement on its own. This year I had to skip London Marathon because I rushed with my training and tried to applied 5k/10k ways onto marathon distance. My physiotherapist brought me to the Earth with my thinking and I had to start everything over. Sometimes slower is in fact faster, so slow down, get your legs and hips strong to avoid injury ( hips are very important in running ), get the cadence higher ( pro-marathon runners run with cadence 190+ ), work on technique, for example do not overstride, do not land on your heel etc. Now wiser in new knowledge I am hoping to run in LM next year 😉
