May Flowers — Step Challenge and Photo Scavenger Hunt

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Well, April did bring a lot of showers, and a few flowers too.  But more flowers are on the way for May.  So this month’s photo theme will be at least three different kinds of flowers.

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

Picture Scavenger Hunt — 3 pictures

As noted, the theme of the photo scavenger hunt is to find at least three different kinds of flowers (blooms) on your daily walks.  The more colors the better.

Posting

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

@Baltoscott  Well it is not flower time here, but I expect I can find a few! We are battening down for winter, and so are most of the plants.

My goals for May Flowers.

-15K steps/day
-1 pushup/day (I always do more, but this goal gets me into position!)

-1 pull-up/day
-13 weight-lifting days

-post 3 scavenger hunt pictures

-Sleep 6+ hours 15 days or more during the month

@CatLover74 -- hope the new trips to the gym go well.

@NellyG -- Flowers can really be a year-round experience with all the great gardens we have in the area.  Took my wife to Longwood Gardens (a couple hours away from Baltimore) for her Birthday a couple of weeks ago.  So pretty.  Here are a few pics ...

I had hoped to be up to 10,000 Steps a day by May...but I'm not quite there!

Step Goals:

7650 Steps - 22 of 30 days (2 rest days per week)

10,000 Steps - 5 of 30 days (at least once per week)

15,000 Steps - 1 of 30 days (last time I did this was August of 2018)

Active 6+ Hours a Day - 22 of 30 days

Sleep 7+ Hours a Day - 22 of 30 days

Peak Heart Rate 15+ Minutes a Day - 20 of 30 days

Cardio Rate 100+ Minutes a Day - 22 of 30 days

Yoga Stretching - 10 of 30 days

Allergy Med Taken - 30 of 30 days  (I need this and I'm horrible at it!)

Lifetime Miles Goal - I am 101 Miles away from the next badge.  My goal is to earn this badge in May!

I will also gladly do the photo challenge, but you guys might have to tell me what flowers I am posting as I am not well versed in this area!  LOL  I know we have some mums that won't flower till fall, but we also have a bush/small tree with a yellow rose or carnation on it.  I actually know the difference between a rose and a carnation in the typical sense, but whatever this bush is supposed to be really rare.  It hasn't even budded as of yet so maybe by the end of the month.

Going for a 31 day streak on my 15K steps/day goal this month.  That used to happen every month, but because of travel and the flu and a few days where I was just lazy I haven't managed it yet this year.  So, I'll need a little more focus in May.

These are not flowers, but some cool photos from tonight's walk at our local City Park!

IMG_20190502_191342(1).jpgIMG_20190502_191342(2).jpgIMG_20190502_191249(1).jpgIMG_20190502_191221.jpg

This is a small deer sanctuary inside a local city park!  If deer are injured inside the city limits, they are brought to this location to heel.  Since they get used to people being very close they are unable to release them when they heal.  But they are very well cared for in this place and they will come right up to the fence and take food from your hand!  Tonight a deer stuck his nose thru the fence and was less then 2 inches away from my German Shepherd's nose!  Too bad I had already put my camera away.
