Metalheads Unite!

ANSWERED

Hello everyone,

I get fit by using the high tempo of my favourite metal songs to either run, spin, or swim (yes I have a waterproof armband and headphones, check amazon).

So, I am looking to make friends with like minded metalheads who want to share how they are inspired or get fit with MEEEEeettttallll!!!

@SantiR @LordHeathen The Gathering when they had Anneke Van Giersbergen as singer are well worth checking out. Her work with Devin Townsend is incredible and her solo work is pretty good as well! Arch Enemy and Once Human have female vocalists but they are brutal. I do like Nightwish even though they keep losing singers. Other female fronted bands worth checking out are Lacuna Coil and Leaves Eyes.

So today I'm listening to Hayehudim.  Israeli rock.  Yeah, my taste is not normal, though it is good.

I'm still new to the mix of rock and Jewish/Hebrew/Israeli rock, but I found these guys and I like them.

@LordHeathen Great bands, all of them. I love female fronted bands. I just discovered one from Russia, its called Kalevala and they truly rock. I'll check out The Gathering, sounds really interesting.

@Raviv Great song, haven't heard from them before. I love the mix, I will listen to more songs from them. Thanks for sharing. There is another band from Israel... Orphaned Land. You have to check it out. I'm pretty sure you'll like it.

Thanks for the recommendation!  It's really not easy to find bands like that.

I wanted to mention a band that I heard only during sometime around the 2000. They are called Skuldom. They have a very interesting video. I always like to watch the band videos, sometimes they are better than the same song.

If you want to give it a listen before you buy, Dystopia is already on Spotify, which is free.

As a piano player I'm a sucker for any band with a keyboard: Children of Bodom, Kalmah, and Dream Theater.

As I Am by Dream Theater has been my go-to song to kick off my workout playlist for quite some time now.

@DerrickS big fan of Dream Theater myself...seen them live a few times and they put on one hell of a show. They got a new album coming out very soon which is always something to look forward to. Images And Words is possibly my favourite album but I do love Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulance as well. Bands that use keyboards...try Cradle Of Filth, Nine Inch Nails and Fear Factory \m/

@DerrickS You like Children of Bodom and Kalmah? Wow, those are my favorite bands! I've always wanted to see Alexi Laiho ripping that guitar off someday. Just got the "Halo of Blood" album for my collection. Of course, amazing keyboard solos. \m/ If you like Kalmah, you should try Eternal Tears of Sorrow (ETOS), the singer is a former member from Kalmah. Also, great keyboard solos. Smiley Very Happy

@Absinthe666 Awesome, I'm a big fan too and have seen them live once back on 2012. They are simply amazing, all of them. The only thing is that drummer Mike Portnoy wasn't part of the band anymore at that time. You know, he's one of my favorite drum players and wasn't able to see him live. Smiley Sad But it was an amazing show!

@SantiR Children of Bodom's Clash of the Booze Brothers proved to me in high school that keyboardists can shred just as much as guitarists.

Saw mention of Cattle Decapitation earlier... I saw them several years ago with Krisiun, opening up for Deicide.  That was a painful pit to be in! Smiley LOL

All time favorite for me is Pantera.  Older Metallica is good (up to and including Justice).  Megadeth, Ozzy.

I think Testament was the first metal I ever listened to, so a lot of credit goes to them.

One of my current favorites, though I don't know if they qualify as "metal", is Volbeat.  Mainly, I like that they have such a broad range of sounds.... listen to a group of their songs, and you hear many different types/sounds... hard to explain if you're not familiar with them.

Best Answer

@DerrickS Absolutely! What an awesome solo battle from those guys. Janne Wirman is the best keyboardist ever!

@BWright1175 Awesome bands! That does sounds like a painful pit to be in. Smiley LOL I will check out Volbeat as I haven't heard them yet.

What do you guys think about Doom/Stoner/Desert Metal? I think is pretty awesome, some bands I like from this subgenre are Electric Moon, Earthless, Kyuss, Orange Goblin, Red Fang, Belzebong, The Re-Stoned, Witch. There are several, really good! I saw Mastodon live once in a gig, they were opening for the one and only Metallica back in 2010. Smiley Very Happy \m/

@BWright1175 Cattle Decapitation are a band I have only recently got into but they are incredible...I need to see them live very soon!!!

@SantiR haven't really got into much Doom Metal bands but I do like Cathedral and am a massive fan of Ghost!!!

Currently listening to a band called Once Human...cross between Cradle Of Filth, Arch Enemy and Machine Head...**ahem** good!!! \m/ The new Dream Theater album came through today so I will let you guys know what I think of it. Not that I am promoting a website or myself (honest) but I write reviews for a site called Roobla.com and have written a few metal album reviews on there...you should check them out \m/ \m/

Haha, awesome little group here!

I listen to metal and classical and like a lot of the neo-classical tech death metal for the guitar work, like Necrophagist, Obscura, The Faceless. Although my favorite album is Alkaloid's "Malkuth Grimoire" and I spam listened to it all last year when working out and now anytime I hear it I feel like I should work out. Haha

Best Answer

@Absinthe666 I'll have to listen Once Human as I haven't yet! Thanks. How's the new Dream Theater album, did you get to listen to it? I like Ghost, its so cool to see Pope Emeritus and all the Nameless Ghouls playing, really good! Will check your reviews, that is awesome!

@BlackFlame23 haha metalheads shall be united! Neo-classic death metal is really awesome, specially the guitar techniques. I'll check out that Alkaloid's album, sounds great to work out! \m/
