Great challenge, @UnderTenPercent  - I wish you very well at this.

You might be interested to see this if you're aiming at monthly totals.  My beloved dog did all these steps with me in 2022.

I just saw that thread. Truly inspiring!  My ankles are killing me doing this challenge, 9 days into this. I'll be extremely happy with 20K steps daily steps for 2024.

Thank you, @UnderTenPercent !  I got going on long step days as. result of reading this thread.

Peter on there (yu4517) was my inspiration for going for big years in 2021 and 2022.  I'm hoping that once the medics here have sorted me out I can get a bit nearer to those figures....

20k/day is 7.3 million, but you could possibly have a go at 10M another year if you did January like you are doing this month.

Those yearly numbers are epic! Part of the reason why I wanted to this million step challenge is one, to accomplish it, and two, to get my daily average to 20k daily for the year. So basically kill 2 birds with one stone.  It's to make up for January 2024 (5513 daily average).  Just to give you some perspective, I averaged 5,866 daily steps for 2023, so this is a huge jump for me.  I just want to get 20k for this year and the following years I'll be extremely happy with anything above 10k average daily steps for the year after 2024.

@UnderTenPercent That's an enormous jump up from your previous months, so I'm not surprised your ankles are complaining!  I hope they hold out for you.  The way you've been going, you should be able to ease off a little from soon after the middle of July.  I'll follow your progress with great interest! 👍

Thanks @Vidd !  I'm truly thankful for walking, along with calisthenics training, as it was the main reason I shed a lot of bodyfat and got the body composition I always wanted.  Here are my all time weight chart along with the weight loss for this year:

@UnderTenPercent That's an astonishing amount of weight to have lost in a short time, but I can see from the July thread that although you are eating plenty you're burning up quite a lot more, so it does add up.  Good work!

My weight (roughly 145 lb.) hasn't changed much in 45 years or more, for which I thank my father, as his didn't either.

@Vidd At one point I was averaging 1598 calories for the week before I had to bump it up around 4000 for this challenge because I was losing weight too fast.

I started tracking calories for the first time in my life starting from April 7, 2024, and it has made a world of a difference in how I lost my weight.

@UnderTenPercent . I've just watched your Week 3 video.  Well done again!  Your million in 20 days is a fantastic achievement, and I know how hard that would be, as I've got quite close to it (22 days) but that's about 5000 per day less than your average!

The videos look like they are taken in the same place each day so I'm guessing that they were filmed early on the walk.  Did you have a long circular route for each day or was it a case of having a shorter circuit with a few repeats?  And what was the terrain like underfoot, and the climbing?  I'm interested to know more.

I think you probably lost a bit of weight doing it too!  Best of luck with the next one, Rich.

Best Answer

@Vidd Yes it was them same place where I would film.  The vast majority of the walks were around a park which had the range of 2 miles and it was a circular route.
