Muddy March 2024 — Step Challenge and Photo Scavenger Hunt

It is the third month of the year and time for the seasons to change on the calendar. March 19 will be the Vernal equinox - spring begins in the Northern Hemisphere and the autumn in the Southern hemisphere. Around Baltimore we might get a few days of cold and snow, but it will thaw quickly and probably be muddy. But the trees will start to flower, and tulips have broken ground and will start to bloom before April … so get out and move your body, while you keep up with your monthly health goals.

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

Picture Scavenger Hunt — 3 pictures

IMG_4623.jpeg

Since March will be the lost month of winter for most of us (and summer from some of us), it’s a good time to get pics that show that change. A final snowfall, buds on trees, rabbits, birds and more. Just try to find three pics that somehow represent March. Extra points for Saint Patrick’s Day Pics.

Posting

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

Is there a group for this I can join?

Best Answer

Hi @Taking_the_Mike

There isn't a separate group - you just post your monthly goals here and report on how you do each day, and at the end of the month you can see how you've done. I like it because you set your own goals, whatever they might be.

But of bad luck yesterday.  I woke up with vertigo.  Not serious but very uncomfortable and annoying.  Won’t be able to walk or exercise till it goes away.  Here are my stats so fa:

March goals
Walk 1.25 miles 1x week. 0/4
30 minute exercises 1x week 3/4
Weights 1x week 1/4
3500 steps 17 days. 3/17
5500 steps 13 days. 3/13
Lose 3lbs. 1.6/3
3 pics. 0/3

Hope the vertigo passes soon @Seaturtle7. Have you had it before? I'm recovering from some kind of pinched nerve in my neck I got in the gym a week ago. It's gotten better. Can nearly turn my head all the way to the left now without tearing up 😂. Last week I had to pivot from the waist to see to cross the street!

Lots for rain yesterday so I got out in the muck and saw some ring neck ducks. The tree swallows were from the same marshy area the day before the rain.
