It is the third month of the year and time for the seasons to change on the calendar. March 19 will be the Vernal equinox - spring begins in the Northern Hemisphere and the autumn in the Southern hemisphere. Around Baltimore we might get a few days of cold and snow, but it will thaw quickly and probably be muddy. But the trees will start to flower, and tulips have broken ground and will start to bloom before April … so get out and move your body, while you keep up with your monthly health goals.
How It Works
The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.
Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”
Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.
Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total
Picture Scavenger Hunt — 3 pictures
Since March will be the lost month of winter for most of us (and summer from some of us), it’s a good time to get pics that show that change. A final snowfall, buds on trees, rabbits, birds and more. Just try to find three pics that somehow represent March. Extra points for Saint Patrick’s Day Pics.
Posting
Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week
Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

The magnolias are blooming. One bush is growing up around a old tree trunk. Wonder how long that took. The other magnolia, goldfinch and junco are from my backyard today. We had a lot of rain, and that gave the junco big eyebrows.

Thanks @NellyG. Love the magnolias.
Friends in town this week so we took them to DC to see the Cherry Blossoms at the tidal basin. Last year for some of the trees as the have to build up the retaining walls to address rising water levels. "Stumpy" one of the originals, will be removed, but clippings will be saved to propagate new trees.

March goals
Well, March was pretty much a washout as far as exercise goes. I had vertigo for 18 days, then grandkids for 7 . They left yesterday but I woke up yesterday with significant knee pain. Going to stay off it till Monday and start again. I did manage to do pretty well on my steps all things considered.

9 weight-lifting days | 2/9

Sleep 6:10 hours + 20 days or more during the month | 12/20

I'm happy with the bike miles. Came up short in other areas, but some of that is because of the pinched nerve in my neck. I have full range of motion now, but it still hurts some when I look left. Need to get back my weigh-lifting days back up.
