Okay, here's the deal, I'm a newbie, (well sort of, 67 and counting). Wanted to hit 20k steps today since I can routinely get 10k chasing dogs and grandkids. So.... took an extra long walk today and got in 10k in a walk, but don't think 20k is going to be as easy as I thought.
Here's the good news though. I live in a great community with over a 100 miles of walking/bike trails and knocked out the 10k by walking around two of my favorite lakes in one walk. I also am a pretty good photographer so was able to get some great heron shots.
More good news. After the walk I was able to pop into Wholefoods and get some iced tea and fresh fruit to refortify me. Ah life is great. Hope everyone else there can find the good in what they are going though. I know I'm lucky and hope some luck comes your way.
Now I just need to kick this excess weight.

Sounds like a plan @UrbanWildLifeMn
One step at a time, one day at a time and you'll get to that 20K. There are times I don't make my goal and there are times I go over the goal, but the main thing is to keep going.
Dogs and grandkids will keep you moving for sure. How many of each and what kind? I'm sure they all love to get outdoors and run about.
If you carry a huge bag of camera accessories with you, that might start to feel heavy and make those extra steps hard to do.
Cold ice tea and fruit sounds pretty good. I do happen to have some nice green grapes and some green tea......hmmm....
Keep on stepping!

Have fun reaching your goals
If not having a Fitbit Aria, consider getting one. It's possible to setup to the Fitbit Account, when stepping onto, your weight & body fat % is uploaded to your account using the wifi network.
It's not loosing weight in itself, as it's possible to stay at the same weight though the weight loss in body fat % can be compensated by a increase in muscle mass. Being leaner at the same weight.
It's changing body composition: Decreasing body fat, increasing muscle mass.
Possible to allow trendweight.com to get the scale readings from the account, to see a trend over time rather than the daily number.

Sounds like a great plan. Also sounds like a great area you are in with the different trails. Woot!

@UrbanWildLifeMn- one day at a time.. and for me, it helps if I break it up through the day. If I try and get all my steps in one shot, I am usually sore after and not that happy. I do about 5K before everyone wakes up. At work I try and get 2K-4K depending if I am on site or telecommuting and then the rest doesn't seem so daunting. I usually end the day between 12 and 18K. The 20s I save for the weekend- mall trips 🙂
