Nifty November Step Challenge and Scavenger Hunt

Nifty November Step Challenge and Scavenger Hunt

Wow.  It’s November.  The year is nearly gone, but we’ve still got time for another challenge or two.

General monthly instructions are below, including the monthly picture scavenger hunt.
How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

Picture Scavenger Hunt

While you are out and about getting in your walks/hike/rides this month take a few pics that show the changing seasons in your area, fall (or spring) colors, holiday displays, if you are in a beach area, the boardwalk shutting down or opening up, something that shows change or inspires the time of year.

Posting

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

Waiting for Jane #pothole=2flats=callwifeWaiting for Jane #pothole=2flats=callwife

Found a nasty pothole on my morning commute.  Rolled bike to the sidewalk to await rescue from spouse.  Glad she was still home as I’ve got to do a presentation for a couple of Bankruptcy Judges in DC in 90 minutes.  On the train now and should have about 30 minutes to spare ... not stressed at all 😱😱

Weight loss of 2-4 lbs (Nov 1 = 160.2 on TW)

 I’ll update the weight loss info on Sundays, so the first “week” won’t quite be a week.

I got into work on time after Two Flats Friday Morning and gave my presentation without any drama.  Fixing the flats turned out to be a bit of a learning experience as it is the first time since I’ve got it last March that I’ve had to remove the rear wheel.  I won’t say how long it took me, but it was a lot longer than the it took the guy in this 7 minute instructional video I found — after the fact.  I’ve got a couple of other internally geared hub bikes, but they all seem to be a little different when it comes to removing the wheel and I always worry that I’ll get the gearing messed up when I reassemble.  Turned out not to be a problem and now that I seen how I’m supposed to do it, I’ll be ready when it comes time in a month or so to put on the studded snow tires.

@Baltoscott,

One trick I used to use for the rear wheel was to hook a bungee cord to the chain and something on the bottom of the seat. This kept the chain in place and made the wheel change quick.

A couple of my bikes had a little hook on the frame to hold the chain in place.
