Nordic Walking

I've been searching on here for any discussions on Nordic walking. In the apparent absence of any I have decided to start one.

I took up Nordic walking recently as I am unable to run while I am recovering from a car crash in which I suffered a broken neck and arm. I'm getting better and want to help my recovery by getting back my fitness.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone else doing Nordic walking.

Hi, there! I also do Nordic Walking, mainly because I have ankle instability (needs to be rebuilt surgically) and the extra stability helps.

I've found Nordic walking to give me the same sort of buzz as I get from running. It's been something I've missed since I've been forced to take things easy while my neck heals. I was looking around for something to keep my fitness going and came across Nordic walking. It doesn't have the impact that running has and gives me an aerobic workout.

Nordic walking is a great low-impact activity, however Fitbit fails to track distance correctly regarding steps due to the tracker mis-interpreting the arm swing in combination with the step used to increment the counter. The use of the poles dampen this. Has anyone found a similar activity to classify Nordic Walking that will compensate for an accurate measurement?

I see people nordic walking at places that I power walk/jog.

You can also power walk. It's sort of like nordic walking but without the poles...

I power walk just about every single day. I started at about a 3 to 3.5 mph pace for 1 mile, and gradually worked myself up to being able to do over 4.5 mph for 10 miles (over about a year and a half).

About five or six months ago I started adding jog intervals into my power walks because I had a hard time keeping my HR up just power walking. Started with a 30 second jog interval and 2 minute power walk interval.

Now I can jog 5 miles, and power walking is my recovery exercise now.

I have just tried out Nordic Walking with two poles and I also found that my Charge 4 does not count steps correctly. It tracked my mileage correctly, I guess using GPS.

I am going to dig out an old Zip step counter that I can put in my pocket and hope that that works.
