November Step Challenge and Scavenger Hunt

Wow.  November.  The year is nearly gone, but we’ve still got time for another challenge or two.

General monthly instructions are below, including the monthly picture scavenger hunt.

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

Picture Scavenger Hunt

While you are out and about getting in your walks/hike/rides this month take a few pics that show the changing seasons in your area, fall (or spring) colors, holiday displays, if you are in a beach area, the boardwalk shutting down or opening up, something that shows change.

Posting

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

My weight has been drifting up a bit over the past six months. I think one reason is the 'weekly weigh-in' thread kind of petered out, and reporting in there help keep me focused.  So I've added a 'lose 2 lbs' goal this month.  I'll plan to update that on Sundays based on my TrendWeight which is a moving average of daily weigh-ins.  As part of the experiment I'm upping my daily step goal by 3K steps.

Okay, here's mine. It's tough because November is also National Novel Writing Month, a particularly sedentary time, and also of course a very busy time as well in the U.S.

5,000 steps/day:  0 of 30

30 min of exercise:  0 of 12 (3x per week)

3 glasses of water day: 0 of 30

7 hours of sleep: 0 of 30

Since I wasn't able to make even half the goals for October, I'm going to set them on repeat and see if I can't get closer to it.  I know at least some events that I will have to plan around, courtesy of the holiday parties I can't squeak out of.

Noteworthy November Goals:

15.5k Steps/Day: --/30

2K(Or Less) Calorie Intake: --/30

Yoga: --/4

Weights: --/8

Ooooo! What a fun challenge! I became very fit and active from 2009 - 2016, but overdid it and burned out thus ended up back on the couch and 20 lbs heavier.  Now I'm trying to get back to where I was when I was fit and racing triathlons and run races.  I've lost several pounds but still have several to go.  Unfortunately, I'm currently battling Dequervain's tenosynovitis in my wrists which limits some activities.

Noteworthy November Goals

10,000 Steps - 5 x per week

Run - 3 x per week

Spin Bike - 2 x per week

Swim or Aqua Aerobics - 1 x per week

Abs/Core - 5 x per week

250 Steps per hour during work day (5 x per week)

Take walks during lunch hour as often as possible

Drink 65 oz of water per day

Sleep 7.5 hours per night

Log food daily based on Fit recommended calorie intake

Lose 5 lbs - Starting weight 130

Here is my first photo from a morning run in my neighborhood.

Hi, my name is Sara and I am new to the challenges here. I had a back injury and surgery in 2015 and was told I would need to use my cane for life. So this year I said NO to that!! Over the past months, what I was told was permanent nerve damage in my right leg started to heal after I started a nutritional cleansing program to lose weight.  I started water aerobics in May and then started to attempt cane-free walking as the healing began and have worked up to a little over a mile. I am slow, but hope to get faster as I was a former semi-elite racewalker and a national junior team coach.

I would love to take this challenge!  I stopped walking after rotator cuff surgery, put on weight and seemed to have lost my mojo.  I want it back!🙄

Since this will be my first challenge ever, I better set a few smaller goals to start.

Noteworthy November Goal - 10,000 steps per day - 6 days a week

Eat when I'm actually hungry and eat mindfully - 4 days a week (to start)
