November Step Challenge and Scavenger Hunt

 

Wow.  November.  The year is nearly gone, but we’ve still got time for another challenge or two.

 

General monthly instructions are below, including the monthly picture scavenger hunt.           

 

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

 

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

 

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

 

Suggested Posting Format    
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

 

Picture Scavenger Hunt

While you are out and about getting in your walks/hike/rides this month take a few pics that show the changing seasons in your area, fall (or spring) colors, holiday displays, if you are in a beach area, the boardwalk shutting down or opening up, something that shows change.

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

 

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

Thanks Jotex, it will take a while to get the car replaced. Ins companies
are notoriously slow. I'm pretty sure the repair costs exceed the current
value. We do have a 2nd car but its a compact vs the larger suv.

I'm getting more "change" pictures this month than I need!  Here is a local new story about a bridge we have to cross to get to the big town for our shopping and doctoring.  It now takes up and extra 1/2 hour and curvy roads to get there.  Good thing we both have a great sense of humor!

TANEY COUNTY, Mo. (KY3) -- The Beaver Creek bridge in Taney County is now the third major bridge to be shut down by Missouri Department of Transportation in the last three weeks.

 

In just about a two hour period Saturday, dozens of cars made it as far at the road leading up to the Beaver Creek bridge and had to turn right back around. Many of the drivers told KY3 their only option is a 45 minute detour.

"First and foremost on my mind is that my uncle lives about 1.5 miles past the bridge," said Christopher Baker, who drives the bridge every day.

The Beaver Creek Bridge is the only thing standing between Baker and his 80-year-old uncle.

"He can't get to medication now, his nurses aid can't get to him, he can't get groceries," Baker said.

Missouri Department of Transportation bridge engineer Matt Geiger said a routine bridge inspection this week revealed major deterioration.

"It's definitely frustrating- this is not something we take lightly that we are just willy-nilly closing roads, closing bridges at will," Geiger said.
"It's something that the bridge is not safe to use right now so we're watching out for everyone's best interest."

@benvegi  I'm sorry to hear about the car accident.  I can't believe how people think it's okay to run lights.  I'm floored by the nonchalant attitude about driving.  Locally, we had another person drive into a building.  Thought they were hitting the brake.  🙄

Just getting around to posting yesterday's numbers. Weight is back down 0.2 lbs for the month, and Thanksgiving plus a house guest is coming in a few days.  Got a feeling the weight loss goal will carry over to December 🙂

@benvegi -- read right through the post that you and Char were in an accident.  Glad you are both OK.  The story about the State shutting down the bridges makes me feel both good and bad.  It is good that they are continuing to inspect and the they shut down unsafe bridges when they find them, despite what I imagine is great public pressure to keep them open.  And bad that the local, state and national budgets seem to be unable to keep up with the need to fix things.
