November Step Challenge and Scavenger Hunt

Wow.  November.  The year is nearly gone, but we’ve still got time for another challenge or two.

General monthly instructions are below, including the monthly picture scavenger hunt.

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

Picture Scavenger Hunt

While you are out and about getting in your walks/hike/rides this month take a few pics that show the changing seasons in your area, fall (or spring) colors, holiday displays, if you are in a beach area, the boardwalk shutting down or opening up, something that shows change.

DSC_8936.jpeg

Posting

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

For me tis also the season to make the fruitcake for Christmas (one of my great grandmother’s recipes). Here’s the batter — cakes take 4-4-½ hours to bake!

@WendyB - the cakes have so much fruit (apples, dates, mincemeat) in proportion to flour and sugar, they are baked at low temperatures so they don’t burn and stay moist.

Well, end of the month and I didnt make a couple of my goals. One swim short (life got in the way) and quite a few hours of dancing short- that is my partner's fault as he hurt his knee and couldnt dance for about 3 weeks!

If I apply two of the 15,000 step days to my 10,000 step days, all step goals met. But I’m 3 days short on my exercise with weights and jumping jacks goals. By current weight and Trendweight readings, I lost from 35.0 down to 34.6 { = down .4 kilos). So, like @Baltoscott, I’ll be continuing this next month.

@NellyG sorry to hear about your partner’s pain. Wish him a speedy recovery.

I missed the weight loss goal, but I was down 1/2 pound for the month; which is fine.  I'll continue the goal through Dancing December.

My schedule got messed up on Thanksgiving and I forgot to get my pullups and pushups done that day, which broke a streak of 481 days for the pushups and 306 days for the pullups!  I'm a little bummed about that, but now I've got a 2-day streak going on both of those :-).

I hit my step goal of 18K 25 out of 30 days.  I'll back that one down to 15K/day for Dancing December.  I was focused on the extra steps this month because of a two-week group challenge, but now that's out of the way I rather focus on other goals.  15K is plenty as a daily minimum.

Although I came up a little short on a few goals, November was a good month.  I'll see you all on the December challenge.
