November Step Challenge and Scavenger Hunt

Wow.  November.  The year is nearly gone, but we’ve still got time for another challenge or two.

General monthly instructions are below, including the monthly picture scavenger hunt.

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

Picture Scavenger Hunt

While you are out and about getting in your walks/hike/rides this month take a few pics that show the changing seasons in your area, fall (or spring) colors, holiday displays, if you are in a beach area, the boardwalk shutting down or opening up, something that shows change.

Posting

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

@Jotex I usually wear a pair every other day.  Right now, I've a grey pair and a blue pair so I can tell the difference.  Today, I've the blue pair on, which means tomorrow I'll put on the grey.  In the beginning, I had to write it down every couple days which day I wore which ones until I got into the habit.

@Joy2019 Feel better!  I have to be careful about hills/mountains because of my asthma.  I do try to do some of the hilly areas on the campus I work on.

An early morning shot of the streets of Baltimore.  So much red in the sky as the temperature gets cooler this time of year.  Had to overexpose it a bit to show the mural on the side of the white row house ...

Glad you are feeling better @Joy2019.  I'm still coughing from the cold I caught last Thursday/Friday, but it has mostly been a mild one.  No fever and I can mostly sleep with night-time cold syrup.

I'm impressed! I'm a newbie to fit bit. I'm curious how to setup goals. I'm 46 year old mom who doesn't usually exercise on purpose.

Would love helpful hints/encouragement!

Although I'm concerned about bpm jumping way high without working hard and it seems I'm always in yellow/red. Shouldn't I be in some blue for rest sometime of day?

I bet thiers a forum for that. I'm not great with computers..lol

Best Answer
Since you are a self described Newbie you need to work up to the higher bpm
over time. Don't pay so much attention to the bpm unless you have
discomfort. Just say, "I'm going to walk a mile each day in addition to my
regular activities" Or perhaps, "I'll get 9,000 steps a day for the first
month." One key is to try and be active most of the time during the day.
Good luck and welcome to the group!
