November Step Challenge and Scavenger Hunt
Wow. November. The year is nearly gone, but we’ve still got time for another challenge or two.
General monthly instructions are below, including the monthly picture scavenger hunt.
How It Works
The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.
Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”
Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.
Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total
Picture Scavenger Hunt
While you are out and about getting in your walks/hike/rides this month take a few pics that show the changing seasons in your area, fall (or spring) colors, holiday displays, if you are in a beach area, the boardwalk shutting down or opening up, something that shows change.
Posting
Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week
Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

Won't change my goals, still 20 k+ per day and 25 floors, weights and yoga 3x a week
11/9 Steps 25,951, floors 27
11/10 steps 21,323, floors 39 It was raining and 39 but Jake took me for a walk anyway!
11/11 steps 20,870, floors 29 skiff of snow on the ground this morning
11/12 steps 24,896, floors 41
weights & yoga 5/12
Here is link to an article about the benefits of exercise and addresses the issue of "how much" works.
And the pictures of change. OK, it's not a lot of snow

Good article @benvegi -- though I question whether the authors of the study were aware of the condition of your icy deck when they reported that 'all cause' mortality drops for runners. For some causes, maybe ... but from comical pratfalls? Maybe not 🙂

Dang. Wasn't paying attention and missed my 18K step goal last Friday.
I saw a lot of functional bikes like the one below when I was in Amsterdam a few years ago. I'm excited to see they are becoming more common in the US. Spied this one in DC yesterday morning. I like the rider's rain cape too.

Shocked I got my steps in. We went out to lunch and then my DH wanted to go for a beer. We spent a good 2 hours talking to the owner of the Brewery. Was interesting and fun. He even bought us a beer that I did not need

Thanks @Jotex it's very easy to over estimate how well I am! With 3 children under 5 (5,4 and 4) there's no rest for wicked me!!! I need to run away and hide for a week! Fat chance of that happening tho

@Joy2019 — I remember those days, and I only had 1 child {Note to self: no, hubby does not count! 😂} There was never really a day off; only a couple of hours, at most, from time-to-time. But you seem to me to be doing exceptionally well on your goals. There are times when it’s not in our best interest (ie health-wise) to push ourselves beyond doing the best we can with what (energy) we’ve got. As Scarlett O’Hare once said, “Tomorrow is another day.”
