YIKES! It is the beginning of festival/holiday season. Already! Around here October will be beer festivals with the wurst and schnitzel, probably a trip to the Maryland Renaissance Festival, and a pumpkin carving party at the end of the month. With all that coming up, it makes sense to plan out fitness and eating goals for the month and check in with Fitbit friends to get support for hitting those goals. So lets get started!
General monthly instructions are below, including the monthly picture scavenger hunt.
How It Works
The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal. Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example. Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”
Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.
Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total
Picture Scavenger Hunt
This month’s scavenger hunt is a little more free-flowing than the past couple of months. Tell a story with words and pictures about where you live - your neighborhood, your town/city. Maybe just about a particular building, or maybe the founding of the area, or maybe a famous person who lived in or visited or died where you live. It doesn’t have to be a lot of pictures and doesn’t have to be historical. Most comic strips are just 3 or 4 panels. But it does have to be pictures you take while walking this month. For example, here is a little moralistic story about locking your bike in the Baltimore/DC area from pics I took last month:
1. What is ...
2. A well-locked bike frame
3. What can be ...
4. A well-locked bike frame
Posting
Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week
Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

Thank you 'lavabelle' and many others for your kinds words regarding my paintings. I painted a little in my teens and twenties. Then stopped altogether for more than 20 years. Took a water colour class for a few months back in 2006, and stopped painting again. And just started taking water colour painting classes again in September. I really love it, and I'm not sure why I stopped; I guess work and family took up most of my time. I'm retired now, so I am taking the time to do the things I enjoy.

@BaltoscottI didn't really see that. But I wanted something DH could use as well. Also something that would lay flat and sit up. It was also the cheapest that did both. I dont think he will be lifting 500 # either
Met my sister for lunch today only see them maybe twice a year. The people at this Chevy's are the nicest people. My niece loves anything princess and she was wearing a princess dress when we went in.
The manager came over and talked to her. Before we left she gave her a brand new Princess dress she had in her car. Had the tag on it and everything.
Picture is kinda fuzzy for the new dress. Sorry

Congrats on getting your new bench @WendyB. I saw it at the link you posted — looks great. If I had space in my office/workour/guest room, I’d be tempted.
I forgot to mention I climbed 28 floors today! I think that’s the most for me in a day so far. 😊

October 17 Update
7 day average above 10k all month (I will check this daily) 17/31 Current avg 11555
18 days weights 12/18
2 hikes (3+ hrs) 0/2
Maintenance weight (164-168) 17/31
Well this month is not going according to plan...I had grand plans, but sometimes our bodies just decide to take charge...lol.
OK so updates:
Foot pain: Still existent, I went for a long walk the day after my trial run, 2 1/2 hours and the pain started about halfway through the hike...so I will not be adding running back to my schedule, and I have lowered my hikes from 4 to 2....still hoping to get a couple in before the end of the month, but hesitant with foot pain...might scrape that goal too...sheeshhh!
Weight Loss: I have decided to let my body rest from it, apparently I'm not all that into it right now 🙂 Switching mentally to maintenance even though I am losing inches. I have also been eating at maintenance to fuel my workouts properly. I am happy with the recomposition my body seems to be doing, losing inches, but weight staying the same.
Weight Routine: I am really enjoying my new workout routine, I am 3 weeks in, beginning 4th week...I have had to up my calories to maintenance to fuel my workouts...I tried eating at a deficit and I had no energy to up the weights on this last week's workouts, so I will probably need another month eating at maintenance with the goal of monitoring my weight to see where to go next, I still want to lose another 20 lbs, but not sure if my body needs to be that low yet, or if I even need to worry about my 26.5 BMI...I really wanted to get down to less than 25 BMI, but I have a healthy BF% and I am of athletic build so I am still uncertain what a healthy weight is for me...I am setting my maintenance weight between 164-168 for now, and if I still continue to add weight eating at maintenance, I might need to add more cardio...was going to try HIIT maybe, not sure, but this foot pain is really having me rethink my whole approach to losing weight...but I am really liking the results so far, so this is kind of a blessing in disguise I guess...I never would have gotten into strength training like I am now had I not injured my foot...but I am so glad I did, I feel so much better about my body, I feel healthy and strong...who would have thought...
