I've had my Fitbit Flex for nearly 2 years and loved it. I have a desk job so spend most of my day doing not much at all (it's scary how few steps I do during the day). I used to do quite a bit of running but that has wained in the past 12 months and my weight has been slowly creeping up.
So it's time for action ....... I got a Charge HR for my birthday, I've downloaded a Couch to 5k app on my phone, ordered some wireless headphones, downloaded some running tunes and I'm all set for my first run tomorrow morning.
Wish me luck!!

I've been walking (at around a 3.5) 2-3 miles a day (4-5 days a week) for the past month or so. And I feel like I'm ready to step it up to a run. Or at least I'd like to try 🙂
Does anyone know of any programs similar to the couch-5K to try out? Would the couch to 5K work for me? I want to eventually get to where I can sustain a 4.5 pace (just a jog really) for about an hour. Right now I can handle about 10 minutes of it but my HR spikes.

I really like the Zen Labs app I talked about on another thread.
Like I said there, though - if you decide to get it, you might as well get the 10K version instead of the C25K version. They're the same, only the 5K version ends after 8 weeks, while the 10K version has the same workouts but continues on another 6 weeks culminating in a 10K run.
"Just a jog" is going to be perfect. When I couldn't run for more than a minute or so, the problem was that I was running too fast. It sure felt like I was going slow, but I needed to go even slower. Once you get the endurance down, then you can speed it up.
Honestly, the app is free - $2 if you get the version with your choice of background and no ads - and it does seem to work well. Why not give it a shot? I have to admit, it is a little addicting.

Great attitude @Junglejuice30! I also have a desk job and I will also get into running very soon, being more active definitely motivates me. Oh and happy birthday by the way.

Thanks everyone! I've nearly finished Week 3 now (one more run to go) and I'm loving it! I'm even taking it on holiday next week as I don't want to lose momentum - so I'll be pounding the roads of the Isle of Mull!
Don't panic when you hit around Week 5. It looks like it's nearly impossible, but you will pleasantly surprise yourself if you push yourself just a little!
I'm on Week 7 now, and I figured I would have to repeat Week 5 a few times before I got it, but I only repeated one workout, mostly due to an increase in the length of my run combined with an uphill route.
