A little bit of background--I'm currently about 70 lbs overweight. I started the C25k program last week and so far have been happy with my progress, with exception of knee discomfort. I'm aware that the excess weight is brutal on the joints-- I'm running on a treadmill and purchased high quality shoes. I've also started taking a glucosamine supplement. Any other advice to avoid injury?

I had a knee replacement years ago. Without trying, I lost nearly 20# just by being able to walk pain-free. Hoping the best for you.

First things first, as well meaning as contributors to any forum might be, they are no replacement for a consultation with a trusted family doctor.
When I was recovering from an ankle injury a few years ago, I found a few things helped:
1. Recovery days are as important as exercise days.
2. Swimming is great for improving general fitness without unduly stressing the musculoskeletal system.
3. A slight incline on the treadmill reduces the impact of running. But outside exercise beats treadmill every time!
4. A longer brisk walk is as good, if not better than a shorter slow run.
5. Hydration, hydration, hydration!
