RPM

So I got a hybrid trainer, which I love except the RPM thing. I know you can covert this to how many miles you have gone but to be honest, iI am just not getting the explanations I have seen regarding this. I know stride length is involved, my machine is 15. Thanks for any help

Huh?

 

A step based Fitbit device isn't going to accurately be able to estimate a distance based on impact of steps seen on any machine that has an RPM stat.

 

Pretty sure I'm safe in saying that, because if RPM is involved, then circular is involved.

If circular is involved, then non-normal impact for "steps" or foot going down is involved.

If not true walking or running steps involved, than the formula that is used to calculate calorie burn from distance calculated from "steps" is wrong.

 

Besides the fact many times rotational machines don't even pick up all the "steps" even done, never mind the formula is wrongly applied.

 

So even if there was a stride length for each rotation - it still would not result in a good estimate of calorie burn, even if all "steps" that aren't really steps was even seen accurately.

 

Best just to figure out calorie burn for whatever the machine is - take whatever steps you can get out of the activity, and manually log it.

 

Or avoid all that and use a Charge HR or Surge with HRM and use that calorie burn estimate.
