Recovery Time! WHAAAAT?

So I have been reading - I constantly research weight loss/exercise articles - and one was detailing the benefits of a whole week of down time.

We have recovery weeks in marathon training, but that is just scaling back the amount of running you do. This article talks about taking a whole week of no weight training or cardio! In the words of the Despicaable mee Minion...

WHAAAAAAAT? (Despicable Me)

I had a long talk with myself and detailed all the benefits of what giving myself a week off would be. Me, myself and I agreed on it...Monday I did workout so Tuesday was my actual first day of going home...and not going back out to the gym. (You know it's bad when your two year old gets out of the car and says "Mommy, we go to the gym?" No honey, no gym this week Smiley Sad)

You know what it's helped me to see already? I STILL have an eating problem! In the past weeks, months, YEARS if I overate, I just went to the gym and burned it off. Well, I've been putting in a lot of work and eating better, but just these last two days have helped me to see that I can do EVEN BETTER. Snacking is the culprit for me so I went out yesterday and got the yogurt and cottage cheese and fruit to replace the Brookside dark chocolate acai (hey, it was dark chocolate, and acai is good for you right? Apparently I'm wrong though.)

I stayed within my calorie count yesterday, did NO exercise and (after checking the scale 3 times) I've lost another pound!

I'll keep you guys updated, but I think I'm onto something here :).

Not putting calories in your mouth, is the first step to weight loss.

Putting the right calories in your mouth, results in good nutrition.

Not doing exercise for extended time, is the first step to weight gain.

Doing aerobic exercise (some weights), results in good muscle tone.

Doing both, with the a fasting / no exercise day, results in success.

I wouldnt say no excercise for an entire week, but yeah, proper rest periods are absolutly essential.

Okay two days worked for me. A week just doesn't work for me. Do what works for you and listen to your body and you'll be alright.
