Did you mean:

Running ouch, ouch ouch

ANSWERED

I have been training for a 5K at the end of May using a walk run program, I have about 2 weeks left. For the last couple of weeks my lower right calf on the inside bottom 1/3 has been tender. It gets better as I get into my run. Yesterday, though I upped my distance and by the ned I could barely move. I did some stretching then went in and ran ice cold water on both calves for as long as I could stand it. I iced it again last night. It's still pretty sore today. What is this?

I know some of you are super good with this stuff. So please help! My plan today is no running I'll ice it off and on all day, some extra sttretching, and Advil. Is this right? What else can I do? I have until the end of May, but I don't want to take off to much time.

I should also say I recently switched my running shoes to Asics, they have made a huge difference in general soreness so I don't think it's that.

Thank you!!

Kristi

Stretching is very important.

Also were you fitted for the Shoes? Its always good to get properly fitted to make sure its the right shoe for you. I would go to a good running shoe store where they will look at your Gait etc.

If you have ruled out the shoes (i.e. validate with a running store) then a common issue that causes running problems is strength or tightness in your hips.  Make sure you stretch your hips regularly.  Might seem strange that your hips could be causing problems with your lower legs but if they are tight or out of alignment then other parts of your legs will try to compensate. Good Luck!

Thank you, I have been cutting back on my stretching. Trying to save some time. That might be it.
