Scheduling workouts...how can I do this?

I know that everyone is busy and so I am not thinking my situation is unique at all.  I could use some info and assistance, though.

I work full-time and, mostly, from 10 am to 7 pm, with my getting home around 7:30.  I can't unwind after work and am not sure if the hour is too late to eat something.  In the morning, I have such an awful time trying to wake up that I typically sleep until 9, when I have to shower and leave for work.

My schedule does change, but these are hours I usually am at work.  With this type of schedule, when does one eat and when does one workout?  Thanks!

Hi, there! I've made numerous of schedules for myself like the one you're describing. They're really helpful if you get it right. 🙂
First up, how many times a day do you normally eat, or how many times would you ultimately like to eat?
Due to your work times, I assume your sleep rhythm is also slightly behind the "norm" and you go to bed after midnight?
If so, I suggest putting your workout after you get home from work and and a not too heavy dinner. After being at work all day, your body probably need some fuel and it will aid your workout as well if you do it about an hour after dinner.
What to eat when is a bit tricky and a bit simple as advice is crazy different on this topic. Mainly, carbs are quick fuel (have mainly good, slow carbs, though), protein helps recovery and healthy fats are good for you.
I would recommend a good breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack, dinner, then something with those yummy proteins after your workout if you're strength training.
I can personally cut the snacks if I have a big breakfast or lunch, basically because I'm not at all hungry and I feel fine (and my sleep needs are way big, so my day automatically gets shorter). It all depends on what you are used to or what you prefer.
By snack I mean things like fruit, veggies, nuts, yoghurt, etc. Something to fuel or fill you up between meals if needed.
I'm guessing it would look something like this:
9am Breakfast
1am Lunch
5am Snack
8pm Dinner
9pm Workout
You should still have a few hours to unwind after your workout and maybe get in some daily housework and whatnot.
Hope I was able to be of some assistance and good luck! 🙂

Just a suggestion for the exercise part.....

Before I started exercising I wasn't sleeping very well and I found waking up for work was really hard to do. After I started doing 30-45 minutes of exercise in the morning, I had more energy all day and then I began to sleep so much better at night, enough that I still felt refreshed even though I was waking up earlier than before.

Also I know everyone is different, but when I exercise past 5 pm I find it interferes with my sleep and I'm a little groggy the next day.
