Stomping STEPtember — Step Challenge and Photo Scavenger Hunt

ANSWERED

Here comes fall — the start of falling leaves cooler temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere, and new green warmth in the Southern.  What a great time to get outside, stomp around, and get your steps

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to encourage you to set and hit your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

Picture Scavenger Hunt — 3 pictures

The theme this month is … wait for it … STEPS and STAIRS (It is Stomping STEPtember, after all).

Posting

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

@sandycrochet -- I know, the picture of the Topeka capital in my opening post only gives a mild sense of the vertigo inducing stress my body went through as I climbed to the top.  My wife bailed (walked down, not jumped!) a bit before we got to that part!

@WendyB -- headed to Seattle/Olympic Peninsula/Victoria for a week starting Saturday.  I expect a lot of eating temptations, but not quite as many as @SteppingBooks has lined up this weekend!

@WendyB They are!  I just hate how they're all in the same weekend, all in different directions.  @Baltoscott  I will be trying to avoid most of the foods, if I can help it.  Though I may grab a bag of kettle corn and an order of fried dough.  Can't resist that once in awhile!

Welcome @jlhaley -- You are smart to start with achievable goals. You too @Bridgeport ! I have always thought that the best things you can do for your health all start with small easily met daily goals that you can build into lifelong 'no thought' habits.

Totally agree with @Baltoscott Some of us have some pretty hefty goals but we have been around for a while as well. Do what you can and thats all that matters

STEPtember Goals:

Walking Distance: 1.5 miles 5 days a week: 2/20. (3 rest stops per walk, was eight)

Distance Goal: 2 miles by end of month: 0/20 (9/4-1.91mi)

Steps: 5,000 per day: 2/20

Scavenger Hunt Photos: 1/3

Well, I’m much more worn out by my walks than I’d hoped I’d be.  So I’m not going to make my STEPtember goal but that’s ok - for now.  My goal was too ambitious (I tend to do that) and I now have to adjust expectations.  So this month has turned into “Establishing a Starting Point”. At the end of the month, once I know where I am, I can set a more realistic goal for October.

Must. Be. Patient. With. Myself.  😕

@Bridgeport  You can adjust it now if need be.
