I woke up this morning for my normal conference call at 6am (the organizer of the call is a time zone ahead of me). Just before dialing in, I noticed a text message from my Childcare Nanny saying she had the flu this weekend, but that her fever broke yesterday. To be on th safe side, she thought it best she not keep my children today, which I completely agreed with.
So, now it's decided I'm going to work from home. Most would think that's fantastic, but in reality, it's incredibly difficult with a toddler (my daughter is in school most of the day).
Workdays are so much easier for me to get my steps in because I can take quick five minute breaks and go walking (we have a very large underground tunnel system in the city I work in). So I really had no idea what I was going to do.
Then it hit me. I have an insanely large document that needs to be reviewed (which was my plan for the day anyway). So, if I could just get it onto my iPad, I could review it while on the treadmill. Except I don't have a treadmill, nor do I have gym membership that has a treadmill. (I do crossfit, and there are no treadmills)
So, there's a golds gym about 20 miles from my house AND it has childcare. I figured I could act as though I'm a visitor.
Now, I've been on the treadmill for an hour and a half, walking incredibly slow, reviewing a document.
But you know what? I'm not sitting on my rear at home reading the same document.
In no way am I trying to pay myself on the back, just showing that sometimes it's all about thinking outside of the box. One steps at a time, ladies and gents!
