Walking for a cause

I have had several people message me in recent weeks saying that they missed the "challenges" that Fitbit used to provide and then asked me how I am doing with my walking.  I miss the challenges too.  But that has not slowed me down.  Sometimes I think the only thing that slows me down is travel.  I recently crossed the 25,000 lifetime mile mark with my Fitbit (too bad there isn't an "around the world" lifetime badge).

I continue to stay active.  I have now walked from county seat to county seat in 44 of the 105 Kansas counties, with a goal of trying to connect all 105 by 2029.  On a shorter timeline, I hope to have every county connected to at least one other county by the end of next year.  I do have 2 long distance walks planned also.  In 2025, I will walk from Central Lake, Michigan, to Hazel Park, Michigan (by way of Flint).  Central Lake was where I was abandoned by my birth family in 1962.  Hazel Park was the city of my first adoption.  Flint was where I was adopted a second time in 1965.  IN 2030, I plan to walk from Canada (just across the border from International Falls, Minnesota) to Mexico (across from Brownsville, Texas).

All of my walks are done to raise awareness at the national, local, or international level for ADOPTION and FOSTER CARE.  To stay in shape for these long walks, I keep active in Hutchinson.  In fact, in the rain on Wednesday I walked 15.7 miles.  Yesterday, I walked another 14 miles in beautiful weather.  Weather does not affect my walking (unless there is lighting or below zero temperatures).

So, why do you walk?
