Weight training and calories burnt estimation

Hello

I am using MyFitnessPall and Fitbit for my training/diet regime. Both of them are syncronised

When I do cycling in the gym I insert time and calories spent in MFP. However I am not sure how to insert calories spent while doing weight training. I estimated based on online sources that I spend around 300kcal per weight session. This I input in FitBit

Not sure If I have correct approach. Dont wanna overestjmate calories spent but it seems that I cannot insert those calories spend in MyFitnessPall

How do you deal with this issue of inserting exercises in MFP and/or Fitbit?

Cheers

It’s pretty hard to determine what you burn during a weight lifting session. Even if you have a Fitbit with heart rate monitoring, your HR does not necessarily goes up even when lifting heavy. You may want to use the Compendium of Physical Activities referenced in this post, and pick up the activity that best corresponds to what you’re actually doing. Then, multiply the METs for that activity by your BMR/minute and the length of your session, and log this manually. Weight lifting isn’t primarily about burning calories during the actual exercise anyway. If/when/as you become more muscular, you will burn more at all times, but it’s more of a long term effect.

Thank a lot

Think then I will stick to inserting in MFP only activities that Fitbit cannot track and i can kinda reliable enter time frame and calories spent eg cycling and other gym machines that had calorie counting feature

Just a remark about this: most of these equipments do not really provide reliable ways to estimate calories burned, unless they’re able to take into account your age, sex, height, weight etc. Otherwise they will just provide a generic number, same for all people. Even if they have heart rate monitoring capabilities (you hold their handles), it’s not very reliable either.
