Personally would choose either 'run - free run' (uses gps) (have pace / distance / heart rate..) or use 'workout' (no gps..) but heart rate and calories burned.. uses less battery as well since not using gps.

I am always playing and training for soccer. So I was wondering what would be the best way to track my game with the fitbit surge?
I would not, not so much out of accuracy concerns, but rather for fear of damaging it - afterall, soccer is a contact sport and your tracker can indeed take a beating. Personally, I would rather not wear the tracker and log the activity manually, using this web site to estimate the calories.

Soccer is there, under Sports & Recreation.
My take. Have a good day.

Ouch, that definitely wouldn't have been very fun.
And yeah, we aren't allowed to wear watches and jewellery into a game, but I was generally referring to training. It works great when we are doing fitness, and now I just usually take it off when we start getting into practice matches.
