I am just curious about the most steps walked in a single day. I have 45,000, and it was tough getting that badge.

@PureEvil wrote:I think ultra marathons go for 50 miles (yes, in a day) and I believe that Dean Karnazes has even done 125 miles in a day. 125 miles translates to roughly 250,000 steps.
A conventional marathon (26.2 miles) will get you roughly 52,000 steps.
Not to diminish your accomplishment, because this is still a ton more steps that I've gotten in a day, but if you do the math the numbers can be sobering.

Ultra marathoners run 24 hours straight. The male world record is 303.506 km and was set by Yiannis Kouros and Mami Kudo holds the female record of 252.205 km. furthermore Rainer Predl came up with an incredibly special challenge. The ultra runner from Austria resolved to break the record of the highest mileage on a treadmill within 7 days. With 853.46 km, he managed to set a new world record.
Based on that 300k in a day would be feasible

Good research I had done the same research after I saw and admit I doubted some of the high numbers and still do, only because I know other activities can be picked up as steps. However unless there are a bunch of world record holders and ultra marathoners reporting I still question most reports over 100 K just due to time constraints although I am sure some are legit and as you pointed out feasible. Still nothing like people reporting ridiculous times and distances on strava (biking) by using e-bikes and not disclosing it. good on those hitting those high numbers.

There are a few videos on YouTube of people attempting to walk the 100K steps in a day. One guy I found completed it, was pretty fun to watch his daily journey. I think he started around 3am. Another couple of people have videos up attempting it, but failing, either due to injury or not planning enough time and by midnight they were out of time.
One couple I saw attempt it I kept thinking "They are driving everywhere, they'll never make it!" I couldn't believe how much filming they did while driving in their car. If you're going for 100K steps and it's not 90 degrees outside, just walk everywhere! And sure enough, I think they were at 75K with only two or three hours left to midnight and they had to call it quits, they were too tired.
It's definitely do-able if planned out correctly to allow time for food breaks.

right now I am competing in a challenge with this guy. his total steps for 1 day, 1 DAY was 168,000.. I asked him how he gets so many steps in during the day and his response is that he does a 15 to 20 miles run a day. I think people that have that many steps are just cheating themselves out from becoming healthier because there is no way you can accomplish that many steps everyday and still afford to live.

60+k steps in a day? Unless backed up by a route map either off FitBit or Strava? Just saying 😉 I walk. I walk a lot. Doing 100k June this year. Event will be backed up by FitBit map with step count to follow. Images are yesterday's hike. 1000mtr ascent & descent going: moderate to hard. 100k I am doing is for Blind Veterans if anyone would like to sponsor me Please? Thank you. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/d-seddon1

Hiked the Devil's Path in the Catskills and the Great Range in the Adirondack Mountains a few years ago. Never got more steps (and floors) in a single day than those 2 days.

40,000 and that was tough. I am an avid walker and most days am over 20,000 without trying too hard.

I think my best was just over 30,000, and at the time it felt that almost killed me. Usually it's closer to 10,000 to 12,000; and that seems rather pathetic for me in comparison.

250,000 steps in a single 24 hour period of time even without sleeping averages out to being 173.6111 steps per minute of every minute of the entire 24 hours in the day. This would be assuming the person got zero sleep, took zero breaks and pretty much jogged at 5.2 mph the entire 24 hour period of time. I've seen some pretty amazing people, but that I don't believe.
