I had this question posed to me in facebook group today and you will see my honest thoughts and answer.
Question: How many daily steps is recommended for a healthy lifestyle and lose weight ?
My answer and honest thoughts: My first answer was simple recommended minimum is 10k per day
Response: No that is way to many steps
My next answer. I am sure the person will blast me for my honesty.:: No not really. We as a human race have let our bodies grow to think this is to much. WHen I grew up in the 60's and 70's we were not in the house watching tv and playing video games. We push mowed lawns, had home gardens walked to the neighbors house and talked. Today's society was not braised that way and we have be come no where near as actives so some ask fr the standards to be changed. But back then we actually knew our neighbors and were sociable. Today's sociable is totally social media on computers. Now as far as you not being there at this time, You cannot expect to just all the sudden walk the minimum recommended you have to work up to it. And remember this is a minimum expected.

I do see where this person is coming from, when I first heard 10k steps a day I glanced at my daily average of 4k steps and my heart sank. I work full-time and I'm always exhausted, where on earth are those extra 6k steps going to come from? Not going to happen! There just aren't enough hours in a day! Now I sit at around 8-10k on weekdays and 10k on weekends. It's all about forging healthy habits gradually, but I think it's important to not lose sight of the beginning of our own journeys, that way it can be alot easier to understand why someone is struggling or unable to accept something that comes easily to the rest of us at this point of our journey.
Also VERY important to keep in mind - 10k a day is recommended for able bodied people. Not everyone will benefit from 10k steps a day but considering the guy was asking the recommended it's not really relevant (also worth noting: all of these are just my thoughts on the matter, not aimed at OP or anyone commenting)

I think many kids average in the 25000-30000 range when they play around, but most of them don't wear a FitBit :).

Hi there !
I’m on the 10k a day or more, it’s a goal and right now I’m at 7000 in one hour but I am sure I will reach it soon and that’s not including the little walking I do during the day that will help me reach this goal. Like most I’m sitting more than I am moving, well that is driving for most of the day. My body aches from to much sitting and I feel exhausted to the point of not wanting to do anything this has been going on for 6 years and let’s face the weight has landed on my waist - yuck! So if your like me you probably need to set a goal and reach it ! From one week of walking I am standing up straighter and I have more energy - so don’t let your mind tell you it’s to much !!! Get to 10k a day and you will thank yourself 😊. Your health is your wealth !
