Obviously, walking 10,000 steps takes more time than running 10,000 steps but calorically speaking, which set of steps burns more calories - walking or running - or are they the same? What's the difference between a step that is walked and a step that is run?

There is a higher calorie burn for the running steps but I believe it is actually not as much higher as one might expect. The effort involved in lifting the knee is the main source of the higher burn, I think.
I remember seeing a TV program many years ago that said that walking is the most calorie efficient method of locomotion for human beings - something to do with the action of the hip joint and associated muscle action.
So, you can burn more calories by running due to increased burn per distance as well as increased distance per time working out. But then you might need to spend more time cooling down and/or showering - there might be easier ways but that doesn't mean they are easy - lol
