Whats a good at work step count

I would like to see what a good at work step count is, hoping to hear more from office people.  Not looking for high scores, more of what should be the norm for a 8-10 hr office worker.

thanks for your input.

Corporate cubical worker here.

It's easier for me to get steps and stairs at the office than it is on my days off. I often have 9000+ steps by the end of an 8 hour day.

Note that I work on the 7th floor of a large building, located on a large, corporate campus. So there are all kind of opporunities to go for a walk in the course of day, inside and outside. My job doesn't require I do that, I do that on purpose to be more active.

I can get 500 steps and 7 flights of stairs just walking from my car to my cube.

I can get another 500 steps walking to the cafeteria and back.

I can pick up several thousand steps going for a walk around the campus on my break.  I do that twice a day.

When I am sitting at my computer in my cube, which is where I do my actual work, I have a timer to set to go off every 45 minutes, and then I do a little walking and come back set the timer again.

Corporate Office Girl here as well.

I just started this on Monday, so I'm possibly not the best person to answer, but I'll give my input anyway.

I also work on the 7th floor of a large building (though not on a corporate campus). Unfortunately for me, I cannot climb the stairs, as the stairwell is locked on each floor, only allowing you to go down in case of a fire. Stupid, I know.

Yesterday, I had 12,000 steps, and I really didn't do all that much. Drink more water, you'll have to get up and use the restroom more.

Also, set a silent alarm so that you can get up and walk around your building some. My plan today is to take ten minutes around 11am and 2pm to walk a while.

I park in a large parking garage, but I make sure to take the longest route to my office.

I have reached 10,000+ when I go on my break/lunch up and down the stairs and walk around the office.

Going to my University classes give me a good 5,000 steps since they are really far away from each other Smiley Sad

I work at a computer all day 8+hrs. Hadn't really thought much about the fact that i sat  ALOT till I read tan article very similar to this one. http://www.vox.com/2014/7/2/5862026/sitting-vs-standing-health-risks-dangers. (Couldn't find the original).

So now:

rather than pay for parking I park in the free parking (800 steps to and from work).

I go for a 10 minute walk at morning and afternoon tea ( another 800ish steps)

I've downloaded a program called workrave (I'm sure ther would be others around though) that you can set to tell you when you have been sitting to long so you can get up and move around for 5 minutes

I go for a half hour walk during my lunch break ( ussually a couple of thousand steps)

Most days i get around 6000+ steps this way.

Once or twice a week I meet one of the other ladies from work 90 minutes before we are due to start and we for a long walk (6000+ just there). We have showers at work so we just take a change of clothes with us.

 Cheers Kate
