Hello everyone,
I am new to the fitbit world. I am excited about starting the challenge of losing weight and hope I am successful. Unfortuanately this is not my first attempt to lose weight, I get excited and then by week 2 or 3 I have lost the drive and I am back to square one. I don't really have friends or family that are willing to join me in the journey, but I am determined to do it, even if I have to do it alone. What I would like to know is how other's got started in their weightloss journey. Is it better to join a gym or start walking aroung the park? Whatever advice anyone can provide would be most helpful.

There is no right way to start - whatever you will stick with is the best course to take. I've been to the gym for a couple of years, but nothing has motivated me like the fitbit. I like to watch the steps accrue and I like to challenge myself to meet my goals. And it's working. I have lost over 10 pounds since January. I wish you luck in your journey.
You are not alone. All of us here are in this together. I have sent you a friend request. We can motivate each other. 🙂

You should also have a clear separation in your mind.
Diet is for weight loss - if done right just fat loss, if done wrong muscle mass too.
Exercise is for heart health and body improvements - if done right it'll support just fat loss, if done wrong it'll help muscle mass loss.
So you don't need any support to do your exercise, because even if you don't do it, if you stick to your eating goal that has a deficit from whatever you happen to burn - you will lose weight.
If you get support and go out there and do more, then you get to eat more - and you will lose weight, and make body improvements.
Now, if friends and family or making your eating goals harder - plan better.
Even though the best laid plans of mice and men ..... Planning is still better than not.
You have your planned meals at home and at work. It'll take more effort, but anything worth doing is going to take effort.
You can do it - even if no one wants to go out for a walk with you or to the gym.

you might want to go to your local bookstore and check out a book for beginning runners. If you put too many miles in too soon you may end up with shinsplints, tendonitis of ankles, and planter fascitis (heal pain). I've had to mend myself on all three of these. Also invest in a good pair of sneakers with lots of motion support. Some say to go to a special shoe store that can watch you walk and prescribe the correct sneaker. Change your sneakers after a few months too. These will prevent any pain & discouragement. I always keep the fitbit on me even when I don't feel like doing anything too. Good luck & start slower than you want.

Sav, my suggestion is to start where you are. Start with what you can do consistently. You're not alone in your desire to lose weight and regardless how many times you start you can achieve success.
For me, the biggest help has been support and accountability to others. Connecting with like-minded folks has enriched my experience and contributed to my success. Show up often as you can, connect, support and be supported.
Be well,

I am using the New Start program. It can be found around different sites online. My fitbit is really helping with my 8 goals.
Nutrition tracking
Exercise tracking
Water Tracking
Sunshine - While exercising
Temperance - balanced life
Air - fresh while exercisiing outside
Restful sleep tracking
Trust in a higher power - ok not so much but 7 of 8 is not bad for a device so tiny.
