Wrist vs ankle

I wore a Flex for about 15 months. For about 12 of those 15 months, I wore it on my ankle. I just upgraded to an Alta and wear it on my wrist and it sure is hard to get to my 10,000 every day! Do I really need to flail when wearing the Alta so my steps count?

I guess I have never had a problem with accuracy when wearing mine on my wrist.  I mean, I even went as far as to stand at point (A) and view my steps and make note of the number I was at.  Then I walked to point (B) exactly 165 steps.  Normal walking, no flailing or exaggeration of movement and the accumulated steps when I checked was exactly as counted.  I tried the previous steps with even less arm movement and I got the same results.

Thanks for the feedback. I wonder if the Alta just needs to get used to me and my activity?

Unfortunately, I don't have any experience with the Alta.  I first used the Charge HR and loved it.  Then went to a Blaze and love it even more.

A friend has the Alta, I'll ask her if she has the same concerns and get back to you tomorrow.

I had the exact same experience. Wearing the flex on my ankle is just more accurate. I bought the alta and it seemed to be glitchy. Really undercounted my movement. So they sent me a replacement. It's better. But still...since it's not on my ankle like my flex was for two yrs....I'm definitely missing out on steps daily.

I wonder if these devices actually do that ? That's what I was told the Apple Watch did ( but even after two months, it was always several thousand steps undercounted compared to my flex ( which I also wore on my wrist to test out the apple watch accuracy)
I ended up selling the Apple Watch

AJ84,

I spoke with my friend and she has the same issues with the Alta.  From reading multiple other threads, it seems that the accuracy of the FitBit is iffy until you reach the Charge model and up.

Thank you for the input. I'm glad to know it's not just me 🙂

Both have their pros and cons for sure but I'm going to give the Alta more time to see if it becomes more accurate. In the meantime, I'll move my arm a bit more when I walk. LOL

I was shocked to hear you got rid of the watch! I thought about getting the Blaze but it looks huge and I have small hands & wrists and figured it wouldn't look good on me.

Yeah it just wasn't worth it if I couldn't even get a decent step count. Plus, I wasn't a huge fan of the nightly charging. There wasn't that many fun apps for it either. For the cost of it....I just didn't think it was worth it. Plus, it got really sweaty to wear once it got warmer. Plus, I've had Fitbit for so long that I didn't really want to lose all my history and the ability to step challenge my friends.

I wouldn't have minded one if I didn't have to wear reading glasses. The screen is way too small for me! LOL

I had an alta and returned it for the surge. The alta was very inaccurate for me.
